I believe and I think management believes that smith has the higher skill set and when on top of their game is the better goalie. He’s just had way too much time outside of his top form.

I like rittich, he’s a ton of fun to watch and is easy to root for but I just can’t help but feel that when things were going right earlier in year that it was being done with smoke and mirrors. He had been struggling in January and I fear and feel that is closer to what he really is as opposed to the one we saw when things with him were going his way.

Well hard to not put the goat horns on Smith for two of those goals. Love how he plays the puck but man he really needed to just get back in the net on that 2nd goal. That fourth goal by Donato wasn't great either. Anyways he had a good run but was not very good tonight.
Thought the Flames carried the play but didn't bury enough of their chances. The Bennett post on the open net is one where he has to bear down and get that in the net.

Anyways we were far and away the better team tonight. Minnesota had sticks in the right spot all night, credit to them for causing a lot of traffic.

 Weird game to be honest.

Losing a game is fine, but tonight it is on Smith as the team is playing well overall. How much longer we have to bear with this crappy goalie ?

What worries me is Smith tends to be very hard on himself after a loss where he's given up some bad goals. I just wonder how his confidence level will be next game and weather he can shake off this loss.

I don't get where is this "the team wasn't good enough" comes from, we out shot them by a big margin, how many shot did they have? The fourth goal was especially bad, it went right through him with no on screening.

scared has nothing to do with it: you play who you play. But there are teams I'd prefer to play rather than minnesota.

Such as? Getting out shot 2 to 3:1 would certainly catch up to the Wild

I'd only be comfortable going back to Smith on Thursday against Arizona.

12 starts for Rittich, 5 for Smith.

Why are we trying to lose 5 games from here on out? We want home ice.

Rittich has let in 1 goal a game in his last two starts that they’ve actually given him, this is not true

For a goalie with a 19-12-5 record, 5 games against bottom-5 teams is hardly unreasonable.

Because smith has always been a questionable starter, a known headcase, a fragile and huge ego, and just generally a puzzling choice to helm the net of this franchise. Hes the anti-kipper

 - I can live with the puck handling duff, over confidence on a hot streak can be reigned in. But that last goal with the game on the line right through the wickets is just brutal.
 - Despite the one goal, first line needs to start picking it up, fairly contained again tonight.
 |
Honestly, the last goal was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Okay, you screw yourself over but then your team pulls back into it. At least you can then give them a chance to tie it. But he went back to going down quickly and lunging and couldn't redeem his mistake to give him team a chance in the final minutes.

That's the kind of stuff that makes me want to give the net to Rittich in April.
