No kidding. If we're actually afraid of a bubble team with 20 less points than us then we have no business even discussing a championship.

I take this as more of a first game home after essentially three long eastern trips that was on a pedestal because of the occasion. Hard to be surprised that there was some performance issues given those factors. And yet they still dominated play.

I think the Flames do better in a playoff situation against them. And I don't think Smith is in net to give the pucks away to them, which makes things a lot closer at the very least.

It’s tough because Smith has been good but it was a bit odd how quickly he won back the net. Just seems that Rittich will not be able to battle through his tough starts without getting sat the next game. Flames have given smith all the rope and more this season, it’s time they put some more faith in Rittich.

Fine. Forget about Rittich then.
You pull Smith anyways to teach him a lesson!

That's correct. He said he looked at Rittich and didn't like what he saw in his demeanour. It wasn't "you made a mistake playing the puck". Unless he lies of course.

I just saw a guy in a Smith jersey on the concourse, and I legit wanted to punch him. It’s not rational, or reasonable, but this might be the most frustrating loss of the season. Especially with the deadline being us, and no opportunity to improve in net.

Also, if Tre offers Smith anything for next season, as a mentor or whatever, I will lose the few remaining marbles I have. This organization made a huge mistake acquiring Smith, and it is time to move forward.

Frustrating night. Two duffers from Smith, kept the shots low but two massive defensive breakdowns on the other two goals and no where nearly enough conversion on our possession advantage.

- I can live with the puck handling duff, over confidence on a hot streak can be reigned in. But that last goal with the game on the line right through the wickets is just brutal.
- Despite the one goal, first line needs to start picking it up, fairly contained again tonight.

What difference does it make if he's gone after the season? Doesn't help us in the slightest going into the playoffs.

Only because we don't have the technology for a goalie space launcher.

Game was so bad there were three PGT attempts.

Anyway, it's our first regulation loss on HNIC. We won six straight and lost two overtime games prior. 6-1-2. We have two more games - @ Vancouver and vs. Edmonton.

Agree with all that except I thought the first line was pretty good, especially off the bat.

Calgary's wins were 2-0 at home and 2-1 on the road... add tonight's 4-2 loss and that doesn't look like an easy out to me...

Minnesota plays rope a dope, clogs up passing lanes with bodies and sticks...imo not a good matchup.

scared has nothing to do with it: you play who you play. But there are teams I'd prefer to play rather than minnesota.

I disagree. If he cant realize that hes to blame for the goal and wants to instead demoralize a 22 year old then he deserves to ride the pine.

His recent success has been very played up as well. The team has been playing great and outside of 2 games his numbers are still garbage. Rittich deserves the faith of the coaching staff, not this washed up bum

I don't know how you can be so calm and collected. We haven't won since February!

Smith absolutely should not start on Monday. It has to be Rittich, 100%. He'd played just as well as Smith recently entering tonight. Now, the equilibrium has shifted in favour of #33. Hope Peters gives him a decent leash against Toronto and Vegas.

I'd only be comfortable going back to Smith on Thursday against Arizona.

vs Toronto - Rittich
@ Vegas - Rittich
@ Arizona - Smith (B2B game 2)
vs Vegas - Rittich
vs New Jersey - Rittich
vs NY Rangers - Rittich
@ Winnipeg - Rittich (B2B game 2)
vs Columbus - Rittich
vs Ottawa - Smith
@ Vancouver - Rittich
vs Los Angeles - Smith
vs Dallas - Rittich
vs Anaheim - Rittich
@ San Jose - Rittich
@ Los Angeles - Smith (B2B game 2)
@ Anaheim - Smith
vs Edmonton - Rittich

12 starts for Rittich, 5 for Smith.

Neither does Smith being the defacto starter either when we have another capable goalie. Unreal. Smith gets way more leash than Rittich. We can prepare for today and the future by letting Rittich play more games. Its win win. How is letting Smith have all the rope to hang himself with good for our playoff drive or the development of Rittich?

Ugh, I hope not. Leafs are a good team and Peters isn't dumb. I'm betting Rittich starts on Monday and again on Wednesday against Vegas. Smith will get the Yotes game on Thursday.
