Sounds like a good trade to me. Zucker is younger and faster. Anybody else get the feeling that it was not a first round pick involved?

I would have been happy with that deal.
Zucker is 4 years younger, and scored 33 last year. He's on pace for 20+ this season which will put him at 20+ in 4 of his last 5 seasons. Plays either wing also, and has good wheels.
Plus he's cost controlled through his remaining prime years.
Too bad IMO.

I would have loved that deal. A 20-30 goal scorer with speed for a pick that will be around 25-31 and Frolik? That would have been something.

I suspect it was a first round pick particularly since Flames have no second this year. And I doubt Minny really wanted Frolik in this deal so that didn’t help.
Zucker’s plaoff production has been absolutely awful. That’s a little bit of a red flag. 4 goals in 31 games and 1 in his last 16.

I would've thought the first was involved. I don't think zucker is anywhere near a cap dump. Depends what we think zucker is I guess. Was last year a career high that he won't hit again? Is he a 40-45 point guy instead?
Wouldn't surprise me to see treliving circle back but maybe get a little better value, maybe a second, or getting a second from Minny if we give up a first.

Knowing what we know of Treliving, I expect Zucker to be a Flame before July 1.

I would have been fine with the deal but also not heart broken it fell apart. Zucker’s speed and scoring touch would have been a nice boost to our top 6. Also makes sense Frolik would be shipped out. Maybe they look at this again at the draft but I would be pretty surprised if Feoliknis on the Flames come next season

Yeah, I bet your the Flames circle back to this trade at the draft. Given the term you have to take on with Zucker I am hoping we don't have to give up much more than Frolik and a later round pick.
Then Tre can flip Brodie and gain us back some 2nd/3rd round picks so our scouts have something to do

Maybe we'll use the Zucker cap and assets to acquire Hall from NJ. I'm not sure Hall will want to sign there long term at this point in his career

Yeah, if the only players involved were Zucker and Frolik, I would guess the pick was our 1st.
Zucker checks all the boxes - speed, size, age, decent scorer - so I would have been fine with the trade. But I am also perfectly fine with the fact that we still have our 1st.

I'm sure the two teams could always revisit the trade although I'm not sure Zucker is enough of an upgrade over Frolik to warrant something along the lines of a 1st round pick. Wild must be motivated to move the contract.

This would be next season when Hall is the biggest rental on the market?
With the Flames saving their assets this year they are definitely in a spot to go big next season. With Stone, Frolik, Brodie, Hamonic expiring next year the Flames have more flexibility to make a big move like that.

I like all three defenseman but I just can't come up with a way to shoe horn both Valimaki and Kylington onto a roster that has Hanifin and Giordano.
If one of them can play the other side and you move Brodie I guess, but that's pretty rare.

If neither of them can play the right side, you look for a one for one with a team that has an abundance of RD, like our good friends Carolina.
Plenty of time to worry about that though.

That is how I interpreted things. By all accounts the Flames thought it was done as did Zucker but the trade was not registered before 1pm.
Sounds like the Flames were down the wire with Stone, Simmonds, etc and while they thought they had the time to get Zucker done it didn’t happen. Rumors that Treliving was “white hot” when the deal fell through leads me to believe we are looking at the Wild as the reason this didn’t happen

Ok thanks. The Wild or the league I guess. Pretty brutal if it was due to some sort of technical/clerical error though.

Rookie GM on the Wild side. Makes total Sense.

It was reported that no trade was filed with the league at all - no contact with the league, no call-in.
That sounds to me more like a last minute change of heart than a faulty fax machine.

Flames will keep that first round pick and select a franchise player who will burn the Wild for a decade.
