At least we knew that the Wings would have crushed the Flames in game 7 (the team forgot how to play hockey in white jerseys that year).

The OT crossbar in 06 was for the series and would have set up a 2nd round BOA

Yep although there was some time left after Huselius hit the crossbar. It was back half of the 3rd IIRC.

But yeah, undoubtedly would have changed history as we know it.

Kinda.

Huselius hit the crossbar in Game 6 @ Anaheim, 2006. But yeah, Anaheim didn't score the eventual GWG until 5 minutes left in the 3rd

David Moss hit the crossbar in OT vs Detroit, 2007.

It's possible that playoff games involve more after the whistle melee penalties and fewer play-influenced penalties, but it doesn't seem to support what people say about whistles being put away for the playoffs
But how much more physicality is there in the playoffs? If physical play is up 50%, and penalty minutes are up 17%, does that mean that fewer penalties are being called on a relative basis?

Difficult to tell from the stats.

What I see (in recent years), is a large number of penalties being called early in series (especially round 1), and then fewer and fewer calls as things move on.

Back more years, I don't think there was any question that they put the whistles away. Tackling was legal by the third round.

For laughs let’s say it was indeed Neal + Kylington + 1st for Zucker, how does the lineup look?

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Zucker - Backlund - Tkachuk
Bennett - Jankowski - Frolik
Mangiapane - Ryan - Hathaway

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Andersson
Fantenberg - Prout
Stone

Smith
Rittich

Definitely pretty sexy but also not the end of the world. We still do have playoff Neal to look forward too and I love that we still have our 1st and Kylington headed into the draft this year which is when Treliving works is magic.

It's even worse than I remembered. At 1-1 in the 3rd, Huselius hit the crossbar, then seconds later Yelle takes the penalty that Anaheim scored the winner on.

Code:
3 12:36 MISSED SHOT CGY EV 20 HUSELIUS, Goalpost
3 12:41 PENALTY CGY - 11 YELLE, Tripping, 2 min
3 14:23 GOAL ANA PP 27 NIEDERMAYER, A: 61 PERRY, 51 GETZLAF, Slap, 8 ft

Wasn’t it in the back half of the 3rd period as I thought? Or was it earlier?

That game was the beginning of a curse that the Flames are still climbing out from under. A decade of darkness with the Ducks - which seems to finally be ending maybe!

Nope you were right. I thought you were saying Huselius hit the crossbar vs DET originally.

Misread the post you were replying to!

Flames apparently tried to acquire Edler, per The Atheltic. Not sure if it’s been posted here or not:

Maybe that’s not how you would have done things, but NHL teams use leverage like that all the time to get what they want.

There was a great opportunity out there, too, with two of the teams known to have shown serious interest being the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Calgary Flames.

Ah yes, yesterday's Mike Hoffman.

I still seriously want to know what the full deal was here, really curious.

Thinking about this a bit - if Treliving really was outraged - my guess would be he and Fenton agreed to the deal but Minny ownership shot it down.

Edler would be a really good add for a playoff run. I imagine the price was pretty high though.

Russo confirms the price was Frolik and a draft pick. Also states it had nothing to do with Frolik’s NTC so it looks like it was a timing issue (Zucker)

That Edler deal must be the one that poster was referring to when he vaguely said that Flames fans wouldn't have been happy if the rumored deal with a rival went through, but luckily the rival backed out.

I think his main point was that Flames wouldn't have been too happy with what the flames were going to give up in that deal.

On the Fan this morning, they said it was leaked that the trade was Zucker for Frolik and a high pick

I choose to believe Treliving and company tried to send the trade email and got hit by Windows updates or ####ty hotel WiFi.

Yeah I wouldn’t add a pick to Frolik for Zucker.

The Flames dodged a bullet
