Interesting ... way more productive this year after having great individual chance numbers last year.
Could be another example of why not to deal Bennett.

Ritchie is playing a minute and a half more per game on the PP this year as compared to last, and an extra 2 minutes of icetime total.
He's just getting more icetime with better players due to the injury factor in Anaheim.

Also, IIRC, Hayes played RW with Johnny, not C.
But hey, Let's split up one of the best lines in hockey!

All those stats were per 60 minutes so ice time would be factored in already.
Looked at Ritchie five on five and that's where his boost has come, only four points on the powerplay.

Looks like the tkachuk affect in action
Last year Ritchie plays with Derek Grant and vermette, this year henrique and getzlaf.

Not this again.
Yes players that get to play with good players produce more. If they don't they don't get to play with those players any more.
Bennett is producing at the border of top six middle six forward right now. He isn't home free as a top six, but he isn't a 3rd/4th liner as someone suggested.
Honestly wonder why a you'd want this not to be true

Are you suggesting Tkachuk is responsible for Bennett's production?
Hanifin has shared a point on six of Bennett's points.
Neal has shared a point on five of Bennett's points.
Tkachuk has shared a point on four of Bennett's points.
Ryan has shared a point on four of Bennett's points.
Brodie has shared a point on four of Bennett's points
Contrast with
Henrique has shared a point on eight of Ritchie's points.
Kase has shared a point on seven of Ritchie's points.
Bennett's been producing with different guys. Ritchie's the one who's been producing with two specific guys.

This isn't a 3rd/4th liner ... it's a 2nd/3rd liner, which is exactly how he's been utilized this season.
|
That is all great. But I like to think he is a good 3rd line player who benefits from offensive numbers playing on the top 6. Its pretty easy to be considered top 6 when you are getting to play with Tkachuk and on the PP.
If you do those same statistics for Chaisson, I am sure they look great too. Doesnt mean he is a top 6 player either.

Except he isn't. Sam Bennett is 199th in scoring for forwards. That would place him onto the third line.
If you actually take into consideration opportunity, Bennett is much worse. Bennett is producing at a 1.70 P/60 amongst forwards, which puts him 9th on the Flames and clearly in the bottom six. He's 236th on this measure in the league. For comparables, looking at the top 10 teams, on Tampa Bennett would be 11th, on San Jose he would be 10th, on Winnipeg he would be 12th, on Nashville he would be 10th, on the Islanders he would be 10th, the Leafs he would be 9th, Vegas he would be 9th, Montreal he would be 12th, Washington he would be 11th. For the rest of the league, on Pittsburgh he would be 11th, Minnesota he would be 9th, Carolina he would be 10th, Colorado he would be 8th, Vancouver he would be 9th, Anaheim he would be 10th, Arizona he would be 7th, Rangers he would be 9th, Florida he would be 8th, Detroit he would be 8th, Chicago he would be 7th, Philadelphia he would be 9th, New Jersey he would be 8th, Ottawa he would be 11th. The only teams he would manage to scrap into the top six are Columbus, where he would be 6th, Boston he would be 6th, Buffalo he would be 6th, Dallas he would be 6th, and Los Angeles he would be 6th. The only team where he sneaks about the six slot is Edmonton, where he would be 5th. Not sure how I see where he's a top six player.

Or do you just not think Hayes helps this team?

I do not feel paying that much for a rental is warranted, and I'm not sure Hayes is the missing piece this team needs to push over the top. Also, I'd like to think Phillips turns into a good NHL player in the near future.

If you look at recent Stanley Cup winners, they usually have a third line that outplays the other teams' third lines in the playoffs.
How confident are you that Bennett-Jankowski-Neal can outplay their 3rd line counterparts on the other Cup contending teams?
