The alcohol comparison is so idiotic it makes my head spin. Are we really trying to compare distilling your own spirits to growing a weed? Seriously, these are not remotely comparable.

The whole "CBA can see your CC history" is silly. The concern was that Visa and MC store data in the US and unlike the records of a US citizen, law enforcement doesn't need a warrant to ask for it from the company. It wasn't that your every purchase is automatically put into a CBP database that is instantly checkable just by typing in your name.

If CBP goes to the trouble of finding out who you have a CC with, going to the company with a request, waiting for a reply and then combing through those records; you've already been detained and in a heap of trouble.

It's not silly at all. As you said, CBP can access our credit card info anytime they want. It would not be hard at all to gather info before hand of people who have bought pot and have had pot sent to their homes. It's definitely a concern. Go ahead and use your credit card if you're not worried about it but I wouldn't.

won't be long until the crackdown on stores not properly licensed to sell.

better shop at those places while you can. even on BC.

I wouldn't get too hung up on prices right now. I doubt it will be long before there's enough inventory and competition and prices will come down.

This is the other thing (and my last complaint of the day), there has always been a crackdown. And it didn’t work. Legalizing it was (in my mind) suppose to eliminate the black market. It hasn’t, and in my opinion did a terrible job of even trying to do so.

We are 25 minutes into the first day of legalized sales in Alberta and you are ready to declare this a failure? Prices will sort themselves out.

There is a big difference in cracking down on illegal shops that are not paying taxes and cracking down on shops selling pot when it was illegal.

I can assure you there will be much bigger crack down on these guys who are skirting the new system.

Assuming that the CBP is going to spend the time, effort and money to go to every US CC issuer and demand the records for something like 70 million Canadian credit cards for the past however many years, turn billions of records into a searchable database using every way that a pot purchase shows up and then keep spending money to add hundreds of millions of records a month to their database, then yes, there is a concern.

Yeah but up to this point you were paying $60 for Grey Goose out of the back of Suit and Tie Terry's van.

Comparing gray market pricing to first-day above the board pricing is ludicrous.

I don’t believe I said it was a failure.

I also stated that the pricing market has been established, and it has been the same for my entire adult life. If a country wide spread of criminals have all agreed on the same price, how does the government miss that?

It's not that hard at all. There are algorithms that search the entire web for key words in news releases and within fractions of seconds produce a list of stocks you're looking for. I'm not sure why you'd search past cc records since it's being sold legally starting today. But this is chump change for computer processing and data base search programing.

FYI if you buy it in Alberta online it shouldn't be an issue:

In Alberta, online cannabis purchases from the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission will be recorded simply as ‘AGLC,’ spokesperson Heather Holmen wrote in an e-mail.

So your credit card statement shouldn't show anything incriminating. But if they search your phone and find an email receipt that would probably be an issue.

Because users conveniently ignore the fact that pricing has been the same since the goddamn 90s.

Black market pricing now for product is almost identical to what I paid in high school, nearly 20 years ago. You think that an industry can just afford to ignore inflation without things being cut elsewhere? You're paying low prices on the back of other things, and considering how much product in Canada is moved by organized crime (yes, even weed) you might want to give pause to the impact opting for a black market option has now that we have a legal channel.

While I'm completely fine with Cannabis legalization and it something that really should have happened a decade ago.

You would never get me on board with a legalization of all drugs. You might get a person like me on board with a possession charge being decriminalized as long as its not possession in an amount to distribute.

Personally there are two many deadly drugs out there that are either impure chemically enough to kill people, or deadly in their intended form.

Personally to me, dealers that sell X that's killed a person, or people that are selling drugs like Oxy or Crystal or synthetic heroins for example deserve a long sentence at hard labor.

But if you remove the stigma from a guy that has a problem and is buying to use and put the investigative muscle into the distribution and sales you would have my attention.
