Bennett is screwed in my opinion.
He's pushed to 4th line duty, no pp time. He's not going to get the opportunity to show anything, we'll all piss and moan about the lack of points.
Hope he asks for a trade. Classic example of the flames franchise's inability to develop a high end prospect.

Yeah not really a big fan of Janko, Bennett, and Dube all only getting around 9 minutes of ice time.

Gaudreau was one of the driving players in the third...
Overall though, everyone could have (and has) played way better. Bag skate, shake it off, reverse the result Saturday

Is just the opener, it's just the first twenty games, we're technically still in it at the halfway point, we're .500 on points, we didn't miss by much.
I just really want to see some patterns being broken for a change. For the love of all that is holy, give me that.

The biggest problem with this core and leadership group is mental. They really have a hard time waking up in games and in seasons unless hey are in desperation. I love Gio, but perhaps is too quiet a leader. They need to “get into it” right away - not ease into things like hey always seem to. We start slow and rely on long runs to get us back into playoff chases.
Being a Flames fan is an exercise in mental anguish. I feel like I’m trapped with Stockholm syndrome at this point.

What's with all the Bennett hate? He's only 18 years old, or 19 or 20 or whatever. There are a lot of guys with a lot fatter paychecks and expectations of them that they did not fulfill in that debacle of a game. It's not Sam Bennett's fault that we suck...crack's me right up, there's plenty of blame to go around.

Gio can skate...he got beat by the guy coming out of the box after being on the ice for two minutes.
What goal are you blaming on Smith?

Thought Boomer and Rhett talking about how we were always making excuses for the team last year was a good point this morning.
No excuses this season.
Smith lost the goalie battle.
Flames lost the special teams battle horrifically.
Flames possessed the puck and did nothing with it.
They deserved to lose, and they lost.

Flames had to outchance and have 5x that many opportunities and puck directed at the net that didn’t get that bounce or two the Canucks got. Most of it was missed by Randorf as he was busy lauding Peterssen but the Flames dominated.
Flames were in a different hemisphere in the last 15 minutes of third, and drew and deserved all of the penalties.
Again, annoying to lose but it’s pretty lazy analysis to say “same old flames we suck, core sucks” that some of this is already degenerated to.
|
Yeah, this blue sky analysis is equally bad. They were awful tonight. Dominating the last 15 minutes when you are down three goals is not an achievement.

I’d bet 5 bucks and a pack of smokes that we see Prout and/or Peluso Saturday night. Lazar goes down Peluso comes up?

JG was one of the bright spots with his ability to move the puck around in the offensive zone. Was unlucky not to get a goal or two.

14 minutes of powerplay time will cut their ice time significantly. Game 1 of the season, let not over react here.

Yes the PP looked like absolute trash and some other aspects were frustrating but there are 81 more games to go.
If the PP can clean up the stupid passes at the line and possibly doing something other than a 25ft back pass as well as figuring out line chemistry we will be fine.
|
Losing when trying is OK - there was widespread lack of trying tonight. So yeah, it's a major concern from a work ethic perspective.

You'd think Bennett's biggest fan would understand how +/- isn't a direct measure of a player's quality.
Just for fun, Lindholm's 4 minuses came from:
1) Covering his guy while the other 4 flames screw up their coverage and leave Goldobin open
2) Making a nice defensive play to take away a pass to Granlund, only for the other 2 forwards to overskate the puck and Valimaki to leave the net uncovered.
3) Winning a puck battle behind the net, giving it to Monahan who promptly turns it over
4) Being on the ice when Gaudreau turns the puck over for the empty netter
Lindholm wasn't to blame for any of the 4. He was solid backchecking early and had a few decent zone entries while Gaudreau and Monahan were asleep at the wheel in the first 40.

For what? To settle a score with Gudbranson? I doubt it.
