Everyone relax.

In the words of Marchand "it's 1 f@#king game."

Yes the PP looked like absolute trash and some other aspects were frustrating but there are 81 more games to go.

If the PP can clean up the stupid passes at the line and possibly doing something other than a 25ft back pass as well as figuring out line chemistry we will be fine.

Silver lining is that the opener wasn't against the Oilers.

Flames did ditch the drop pass.
Opportunistic goals by the Canucks; Gio gassed at end of pp for Virtanen, blocked shot by Hanifin in his skates and ends up right to Peterssen, the team leaving early on the 4th goal, and a 2 on 1 goal and EN.

Flames had to outchance and have 5x that many opportunities and puck directed at the net that didn’t get that bounce or two the Canucks got. Most of it was missed by Randorf as he was busy lauding Peterssen but the Flames dominated.
Flames were in a different hemisphere in the last 15 minutes of third, and drew and deserved all of the penalties.

Again, annoying to lose but it’s pretty lazy analysis to say “same old flames we suck, core sucks” that some of this is already degenerated to.

Bennett barely played. And he ragdolled the entire Vancouver team right after one of the ineffectual Calgary powerplays, leading to two shots on net. One of the few Flames players to enter the zone and hold the puck, all night. Basically him, Gaudreau and Hanifin (of all people). Everyone else dumped or drop passed like the Dickens.

Like Charles Dickens.

Maddening.
you mean the same Giordano that had more goals last season than the likes of Brent Burns, Drew Doughty, Erik Karlsson...

Giordano is not the problem with this team come on now.

I know it’s easy to be negative, but let’s give it a few games. I’m not convinced (yet) that everyone in the organization sucks

I don't think it's lazy at all to mention that the Flames suck in openers. It's fact.

Sam Bennett is the leagues most obvious “needs a change of scenery” that their is right now. Wish we could package him up and acquire Matt Duchene

It took five PP’s and a real stinker of a loss, but they did ditch the drop pass, so... progress?

(God help us all if they go back to the drop pass on Saturday)

Look at it this way.

When new software is released, usually it takes some quality testing to figure out the bugs and fix them. Then the software gets more stable with the right adjustments.

The season opener is that software go-live. There needs to be some assessments and adjustments done.

Gotta look at the long game here, it's just the first game.

I'm not necessarily on the trade Bennet bandwagon, but this is crazy.
Peter "refusing" to give him ice time is completely rational. Many players have been better than they, and they deserve to be ahead of him in the lineup.

Giordano has become Eeyore. Now our #1 defenceman and #1 goalie are both 100. No good. One can't skate and one can't stop a puck and it's the first game.

I think he's looking for deflections to be honest. Shooting at the pads of the goalie does not make much sense. I blame the poor goalie screening and not moving your feet on the ice with our poor power play and offensive zone play.
