Mexico and Uruguay are hardly pushovers. But your premise is correct. By playing the brackets instead of the game England will be punished.
Happens all the time.

And it's England, nothing will be more England than having their best look at the WC since 1966, and going full England instead.

I was thinking about that, would only need to extend the tournament by 4 days really, draw could happen tonight
First games on monday? Teams that play today say they cant start until Tuesday so they have 4 full days rest

it's still logistically difficult. teams and fans moving around, booking hotels, security etc...
and you've just lost two weekend dates for tv.
In the end, it's worked out anyways, i don't think there is an easy side.

Imagine being eliminated from the World Cup based on your respectfulness.......compared to the Japanese.
Senegal literally stood no chance.

Here is the updated bracket. I know England tanked to avoid Brazil...but I would much rather play Japan than Colombia in the round of 16.
My guess is Uruguay, France, Brazil, Belgium win on the top half of the bracket.
Spain, Croatia, Switzerland, Colombia go through on the other half.

^^Well its not bad. With the exception of Colombia there is a "European cup" side to the draw but with only one really bad match that could be a bore. I am not picking the winners but the Russia-Spain should be at least a 2-1, Croatia-Denmark a 2-0, Sweden-Switzerland a 0-0, and England-Colombia also a 2-1.
On the other "World Cup" side really only Uruguay-Portugal could be a 0-0, although that could still be an interesting game and probably a death match that goes all the way to penalty kicks and all that.

Teams and fans are going to move anyway, they play different locations if they win or lose the group
