Oh man, it would be hard not to give Yzerman almost anything he wanted for Kucherov! I personally would be OK gutting our prospect system for an elite talent like that.

I love this thread. People want the team to get bigger, faster, tougher, more skilled and younger but only want to trade Brouwer to achieve this. Pretty tough to do if you don’t want to give up assets, money or term. People who think having Mangiapane or Foo on the roster to play 4th line minutes is good player management are delusional.

Yes.... Ottawa would consider it and that’s about it.

Melnyk and Dorion would consider it.

IMO Ottawa also needs to retain some of Ryan's salary.
They'd still save money, get a decent depth Dman who can play top 4 in a pinch (and also happens to be the brother of one of their core forwards) and we get a top 6 winger at a more palatable cap hit.

Cap hit is about even for the 2 years Brouwer and Stone have left on their deals.... not the last 2 Ryan has. If you want to help Ottawa that bad just buy out Brouwer and Stone and the cap hit is far less for the same term as Ryan.

Not your rumour so I'm not shooting the messenger ...
But how would an owner that no longer wants to pay young RFAs the market rate want a declining asset with a big ticket from Edmonton?

Flames give up the best asset and take on two more years of salary. I don't like it. Rather move Stone for picks if we're getting rid of him. And just straight up buy out Brouwer.

Saves money on a Cap hit vs real dollars, after July 1, and rumor that they want to get bigger.
Again I don't really believe the rumor as I assume Lucic is untradeable, but thats what is out there.

Still has to reach the cap floor. This does not seem like an owner who is in a win now mentality.

It obviously depends entirely on what Tavares and Kucherov would sign for, but I've already posted that it's not unusual to see teams allocating over half of their cap space on their 6 highest paid players. For example, the top 6 players on Chicago and Washington currently make ~45M.
If you're saying 8M for Kucherov, and let's say Tavares will sign for 10M given the tax cut, contender status, and Florida weather, that gives the team 34M allocated to their big 4. Get Stralman to sign a retirement contract as a 33 year old to keep his cap-hit down and the team isn't in that bad of shape once Vasilevskiy needs a new contract (he'll make less than what he does now + cap hit saved from Callahan's contract being off the book).
Signing Tavares doesn't mean losing Kucherov, it shouldn't at least. It more likely means losing someone like Johnson or Kilorn.

There's not a lot of deals the Flames could lose that involve trading Brouwer, however this might be one of them. Huge no to Bobby Ryan coming here.

I could see a deal there if the Oil include Puljujarvi and maybe a conditional pick (if Skinner is traded or re-signed)
Canes are looking to get bigger and meaner.

Kucherov for Frolik, Bennett, Valimaki, 2020 1st, 2019 2nd
Grasping at straws, not sure that even gets it done.

Its missing the Chucky element which the Lightning would insist on and the Flames would say "Nope"

I listened to the Shannon interview. Speculating $10M on the next deal for Kucherov.
They would need to move multiple players of the Johnson, Killeen ilk and would struggle to sign Point if they have 3 forwards taking up 27-30M in salary.
I don’t see Tavares signing there anyway.

But cap space will be big thing for the Lightning so i'm not sure they'd be looking to add a guy who will likely command at least $6 million per year the following season.
I would think they would be looking for young and cheap assets (draft picks etc.).
From the Flames, it would likely be something like this:
One of Bennett/Jankowski
Valimaki
One of Dube/Mangiapane
Combination of first / second round picks
