Ugh why is Brouwer being promoted to the 2nd line?!

Taking a while to get to 5000

I would imagine Tkachuk-Backlund-Brouwer would be the "3rd line" minutes/assignments wise tonight

Poor Chucky... guy scores 2 goals last game and now gets to play with brouwer and 3rd line minutes as a reward.

Those were on the PP. That won't change, he'll get that time if presented.

Forget 'always earned' or 'next man up'.
Who has the biggest salary? Done, move him up the line up, let's give him a letter while we're at it. Smart coaching be Damned. Forget what any simple or advanced stat tells you, ignore all eye tests, what's the salary though?

I'm totally over the Jagr experiment.

I'd rather have half a Jagr over 3 Lazar's. He is terrible and does not belong in the NHL.

As much as Brouwer hasn't earned a 2nd or even 3rd line spot (however you want to define it) there wasn't a lot of choice, and putting him there probably makes the most sense. It was either Hathaway or Brouwer for Frolik's spot, and Hathaway probably plays better with Jankowski. Backlund is known as a guy who helps his linemates' game so it makes sense that way too. I guess they could elevate Mangiapane but he's a one game rookie.
As for Tkachuk, I suppose they were trying to keep him with backlund so they would at least have one familiar linemate. If they put him up to the top line, then you have a line that has never played much together at all.

I haven't been nearly as loud about Brouwer as others but I'm really starting to get annoyed with his usage. He should have his ass stapled to the 4th line for the remainder of his time with the Flames as well as banished from the power play. It's stuff like this that makes it really hard to get behind this coaching staff.

I'd prefer he move Hathaway with Tkachuck and Backlund, then put Eat Bread with Janko and Bennett.

people put too much stock in the line numbers...they don't want to break up the 1st or 3rd lines that have shown chemistry.
2nd and 3rd line probably get near equal ice time.

Could be an interesting look. But wow is that right side weak. Is it really that hard for Gaudreau, Tkachuk, or Bennett to switch sides?
|
No, but it's hard for GG to do something different.

Why not play Bennett in the top 6 and put Mangipane with Janko and Hathaway?
Brouwer on the 4th line
