Flames Flames vs Kings 7 p.m. MT TV: Sportsnet West, Radio: Sportsnet 960 The Fan

Welcome to the Thrilla in the Dome: Tkachuk vs Doughty in a rematch that is sure to have fans on the edge of thier seats.

THE BIG MATCHUP

Flames LW Matthew Tkachuk vs. Kings D Drew Doughty

Really original, we know. But it’s still a battle worth watching. Winger Matthew Tkachuk has been a force for the Flames this season and stood up for his club in a big way when he dropped his mitts with Anaheim Ducks pest Ryan Kesler. His unspoken feud with Kings defenceman Drew Doughty has been well-documented. These clubs are starting to develop a hate for each other, and these two players are part of what makes this rivalry so heated.

The war of words

"He's a pretty dirty player, that kid," Doughty told Fox Sports' Jon Rosen at the time. "To be a rookie and play like that is a little surprising. I don't know exactly what happened because I got hit in the head, but I thought he elbowed me. I can't tell you for sure, so I'm not going to say if I think anything should happen, but whatever it was, it hurt pretty bad, and it's going to hurt for a little bit."

Tkachuk responds

“I expected more from him, honestly, than to go right to the media and start complaining after a loss,” Tkachuk told the Calgary Sun. “But he’s a good player. He’s a good enough player where he doesn’t have to worry about any of that stuff. He’s a skilled guy and everything like that, and he’s won a couple of Cups.

“He’s still a real good player, so I don’t think he’ll be too worried about it tomorrow.”

The 19-year-old rookie insisted the comments by Doughty didn’t bother him, though.

“It has no effect on me what (Doughty) says or anybody on their team says,” Tkachuk added to the Sun. “If it was a pretty dirty play… I mean, nobody really did anything about it and nobody on our end really thought it was that bad. But that’s in the past. Tomorrow, it’s just another game and hopefully another game closer to playoffs.”

It's "just win" territory regardless of opponent given the handing out of points of late by the flames....

Please just win.

Please just win somehow, I still believe but it may soon be too late for any more moral victories. We need the big two points, preferably in regulation. GO FLAMES

Big game. They can't afford to be on the losing end of many more of these 4 point match-ups.

I have tickets for the game tonight. They have lost every game I have had tickets for this year, regardless if I have gone to the game or not.

Guaranteed loss tonight, sorry.

Better put bubble wrap on Doughty or he might get broken.

Hopefully cooler heads prevail and we beat them on both the scoreboard and if they try playing heavy against us.

We need these points so discipline and special teams need to be our priority.

Let's go Flames.

You missed that last part about regardless if I have gone or not. Even the ones I've sold they still lose.

I keep preaching that the Flames are going to have a strong 2nd half, so time to prove me right Flames!

The Flames have two games in hand on both the current Western Conference Wild Card teams. But you have to win those games to make them count!

I am putting the Kings and the Knights in the category where 3-points doesn't matter. I don't anticipate catching either team this season in the pacific and therefore will be cheering for a Flames win of any variety. Two in-a-row going into Saturday night's tilt against the Ducks would make for a fun Saturday at the Dome.

And you have to assume the Ducks will come in somewhat satisfied after their inevitable 5-0 win against the Oilers. Time for the Flames to string three wins together!! (Saturday in regulation)

Catching LA is not really a realistic scenario anymore. It's still a very important game for us, but I don't consider them a team we're fighting with.

didn't miss it. Thought you just missed the games but kept the tickets.

well, this is clearly all your fault - no more tickets for you

First game this year. Going to sport my Regehr sweater. Heard on the radio he will be at the game tonight. I have been waiting since 2006 to try and get this thing signed.

Geez, Flames 12th in the conference. That said, I have a very good feeling about this one.

Doughty is such a female hygiene product. He's talented and talks a big game but he's such a wimp IMO.
