Plus no one wants to go there to begin with unless they have exhausted all other options.

McDavid's agent is Bobby Orr, who belongs to one of the large agencies, I believe. I just don't see this happening.

This is all very unlikely. When Crosby signed his second contract his average annual salary of $8.7M was considered below market value, considering Ovechkin got $9.5M and Malkin got $8.7M a year later. 5 years later Malkin got a raise and player like Kane and toews make significantly more. Pat Brisson(crosby's agent) isn't having any difficulties getting work these days, coincidentally he also represents Kane and Toews.

The PA can't really hold the agents accountable because at the end of the day it's up to the players. Do you really think the PA are going to be going after Patrick Sharpe's agent for "letting him" sign the bargain basement deal with the Hawks today? The agents get paid a commission, do you really think they aren't trying to get their client the maximum out of every possible contract?

I get a lot of people don't like the PA, but some of the theories posted on here about how the PA tries to control things are completely out to lunch.

Neither McDavid, nor Bobby Orr, would take heat if he signed at a discount.

But he's not going to, so no worries

I'm sure the McDavid thing is done, just waiting for that pesky national holiday to be done so they can make a big spectacle of the signing (Ala Gretzky who signed his contract at centre ice in the mid 80s).and have MacLean and Shannon MC the event.

Only question is if Dr. Drai will be there.

The story goes that he had a deal in place with Pocklington, but offered to play a game of backgammon against the owner of the Jets with Gretzky on the line. If the Jets owner won, Skalbania would sell Gretzky's contract to the Jets. If Skalbania won, he would have received a percentage ownership of the Jets. The Jets owner declined the offer and Gretzky went to Edmonton.

Skalbania got involved with the Flames purchase more than a year after that all went down.
That's an amazing story. Skalbania sounded like a gangster!

Crosby signed one of the last of the back diving deals. A 12 year 104 million dollar deal was market value. So over the 10 years the contract is actually for he gets 10.4 per. Which is roughly one of the highest Salaries at the time and still amoung the highest now that back diving contracts were banned.

Iginla spoke of pressure to sign fair deals by the PA.

More recycled no-goodness.

Oilers re-hire Scott Howson as head of player development.

Ovi got more money than Crosby at the same time, granted at the time there was greater debate as to whom the better player was, most people would have concluded that they were fairly even. Your cap hit calculation is a little off, unless you think he plans on retiring at 35.

What does this have to do with the PA blacklisting or pressuring agents?

Now that they have made the playoffs and taken all the pressure off, it's time to bring the band back together!

Lowe is weaving his magic behind the scenes!!! I hope they never get rid of this guy. He has been a blight on that organization ever since his playing days ended.

I'm not sure I understand your last suggestion. A GM would throw out a purposely high offer and hope to hell they match? That same GM could offer nothing and then not have to hope to hell they match.

A lot of hockey pundants are going to look foolish again. Remember a few years ago when they were building something special up there and made fools out of themselves. Well just reading how awesome Chia has done since the end of the season given them high rankings in the power ratings, projecting cups.

The Oilers are weaker this year then last year. I hope they crash and burn, and I think they will.

I think his point was to put the oilers in a situation they don't like. Sure it's a lower cap hit, but then they aren't able to buy any free agency years.
