Still no announcements from Edmonton, that can't be good for Coiler fans.

Well, they did sign Ty Rattie but they lost Jordan Oesterle and Tyler Pitlick.

From what I heard the deals not done, either according to edmonton fans and birdies its because he's going to sign for 10 million so his buddy Leon gets paid.
Or in the real world its 13.25 but they're trying to make the contract lockout proof with a lot of signing bonus dollars.

If McJesus signs for much below $14 million per year the NHLPA will go crazy, he is intentionally diluting the players value by a marquee player which I doubt would go over well!

Roots of the Oilers' dynasty in the 1980s:
1. Lucked into Wayne Gretzky when Nelson Skalbania sold him to Peter Pocklington.
2. Picked up an unbelievable supporting cast by killing it in three consecutive drafts:
1979 – Kevin Lowe (1st round), Mark Messier (3rd), Glenn Anderson (4th)
1980 – Paul Coffey (1st), Jari Kurri (4th), Andy Moog (7th)
1981 – Grant Fuhr (1st)
That's almost the entire core of the Oilers' dynasty teams right there, and they all matured together and peaked at the right time.
The current Oiler team, which so many people are eager to proclaim a dynasty in the making, has so far managed one step:
1. Lucked into Connor McDavid by winning a lottery.
Klefbom might turn out as well as Lowe, and Draisaitl looks like a good core player. (It remains to be seen, though, if he can keep scoring when not riding shotgun for McDavid.) But Nurse is no Coffey, Nugent-Hopkins is no Messier, Puljujarvi is no Kurri, and Yamamoto seems very unlikely to be an Anderson. And because the Oilers truly stink at drafting beyond the first round, you have to pick through seven drafts just to find those pieces.
Bad enough that they don't have the same level of raw talent to build with. They're already dealing away pieces from the last rebuild for cap reasons; how are they going to keep the current crop together? They don't have the luxury of letting a bunch of whiz kids gel together for three to five years. History is not repeating itself, and in this case, it's unlikely that it will even rhyme.
Dynasty, my foot. The arrogance and entitlement of Oiler fans and media is truly a gift that keeps on giving.

Wasn't Skalbania the guy that brought the Flames to Calgary? If he hadn't sold Gretzky, could he have been a Flame? Imagine that alternate timeline.

No, that couldn't have happened.
Skalbania owned the Indianapolis Racers of the WHA and had signed Gretzky as a 17 year-old. When it became clear the Racers weren't going to be one of the teams absorbed into the NHL, he sold Gretzky in an effort to make money to help the Racers finish the season.
The story goes that he had a deal in place with Pocklington, but offered to play a game of backgammon against the owner of the Jets with Gretzky on the line. If the Jets owner won, Skalbania would sell Gretzky's contract to the Jets. If Skalbania won, he would have received a percentage ownership of the Jets. The Jets owner declined the offer and Gretzky went to Edmonton.
Skalbania got involved with the Flames purchase more than a year after that all went down.

What's this Collie McDoggie you keep going on about?
It's not funny or offensive.
Actually scratch that, it's offensive to Collies. They are a majestic breed that should not be linked to Oiler's filth.

Collie McDoggie is taken from an epic post in this thread about the oilers returning from a playoff game. I'm just reusing it.
It's probably as funny and insightful as other oilie in jokes like the tenderness or Ryan Nothing Happens.

Lol "Oilers acquired cap space", so says the Oilers gestapo as they strike out yet again on July 1st. There's no need to bring in players when you can develop schlubs into future stars!

Realistically, what could the NHLPA do to him? They can't kick him out for signing a deal they don't like. Will he be off the christmas card list or something?

Pretty much promised that they'll "win" soon.
Also thought that they were close to going to the third round, don't know what he was watching. They weren't close, and they're further away today.

Other players could make him a target. If they think their future salaries could take a hit because of him, you never know what could happen.

The PA can make life tough for his agent, though.

They can pretty much starve him out by steering players to other agents that are more pliable.

So, free agent frenzy, and the Oilers do SFA. That is absolutely beautiful! Chia Pet knows how screwed his team is, so his big signing is - wait for it - Ty Rattie!!! Good job Chis. Hope you, and your Oiler sycophants, suck on that for years to come. You can't sign anything that addresses needs because of Connon Mc####face. Awesome stuff.
