I don't know how, but if the Flames were to land any of Evander Kane, Galenychuk, Hamonic, Barrie, and to a lesser extent Lehner, I'd be pretty happy...

I will never understand why anyone wants to see Evander Kane on the Flames.

Because on the ice he is absolutely everything Flames fans dream Ferland will be.

But off the ice, and in the locker room, he's Evander Kane. That's the problem.

After starting off slow, he finished with 28 goals in 70 games played. He seemed to turn a corner off the ice as well.

This past year I didn't hear much about Kane being that bad at all. Remember when everyone was saying how bad PK was because he was too arrogant and bad off the ice... Evander Kane is just a young kid who gets paid millions of dollars to play a game that he loves. If he's surrounded by good leadership and treated like an adult, I think the off ice shenanigans would become a thing of the past.

He's exactly what this team needs on the top line.

Agreed, the off ice reputation is terrible, but honestly, not everyone in the locker room needs to be best friends if you have strong leadership, which I feel the flames do.
If he shows up and scores 30+ goals a season, do you really care if he's a dbag on his own time? Also, he's 25.... who's to say he isn't slowly maturing and growing up? Maybe being surrounded by top leaders and a close team can help guide him in the right direction.

I question anyone who actually thinks this. Kane doesn't have the hockey sense to play with high skill players - he and Eichel had negative chemistry because Kane can't slow the game down. Think Chiasson with better hands. Ferland's chemistry with Gaudreau/Monahan was already exemplary - he was thinking the game at their level.

Honestly, if I was making millions in my early 20s I would have got in a lot more trouble than Kane did. Really what did he even do so bad?

As soon as Kane hits UFA I am sure he would leave Calgary for a city more his style.

The Flames acquiring him would be a 1 year rental (unless he agrees to a new contract before being traded here).

Used an American money phone while playing for a Canadian team.

Kane scored 30 in 70 games last season I believe. One of the best young snipers in the game, all the drama aside.

Eventually, most adult men start to settle their #### down and grow up. It's not inconceivable that you could get the player Kane and maybe not a standout locker room guy, but not a cancer either.

If the acquisition cost is relatively cheap, I'd pick him up, if only to see what a legitimate RW sniper on Gaudreau's line would look like. As a fan I imagine it would be a lot of fun to watch.

Ferland isn't that, and if he ever is, it'll be a little while yet.

That's not even taking into account the salary and term these guys may be expecting in free agency. It certainly appears the Flames don't want to go the UFA route if possible to avoid having to lock up a guy that they don't really covet.

I don't know how you can read anything into the UFA situation. Wouldn't it be tampering if they discussed UFAs openly? Mason could be top of their list or bottom, they're going to look at all options regardless

all of that skill and potential at 25, and yet the guy is still out there as potential trade bait?

Seems like Buffalo should be locking him up to a long term deal instead of listening to offers no?

if Ferland had his numbers, he'd be a stone cold lock to be a Flame long term...

to me, its a red flag Buffalo is rumored to be looking at deals for him... i agree with those saying stay far away from EK
