Hamonic might be the most over rated player in the league IMO

Agreed on Lehner. Aside from that, I was reading up on goalies and he is rumored to have some off-ice issues (that I won't go into detail about). I just don't think Lehner is a legitimate target for the Flames. I am still expecting the goalie to go through Vegas, whether it be Raanta, Grubauer, Pickard or perhaps Mason. Maybe two of those even. I don't think finding a bona fide starter this off-season is realistic any longer, but I do think the Flames will target one or two of these younger up and comers (not to say that Mason is a young up and comer, but he is also not widely seen as a legitimate or bona fide starter).

Re: Hamonic
Overrated or not, he's sought after and any deal involving him is going to be a big one this summer.

The way the goalie market is playing out, it appears more and more like the long term answer in goal is going to have to come from within the organization.

That would make sense but we are talking about the Avalanche so logic doesn't necessarily apply.

#Flames GM Brad Treliving says even without 2nd and 3rd rounder.. he feels his team can do something dramatic at Draft.

Crazy that Mason at 29 years of age has been in the league for close to a decade.
Pretty impressive for goaltender to start that early. Won the Calder trophy in his first year too.

I've seen both play. Phillips quite a bit.
Phillips to me seems like a hungrier, more aggressive player with incredible vision.
Mangiapane is no slouch either.
Where I'm coming from is that with Johnny already in the lineup, I can't see Mangiapane making the big club anytime soon just due to team size.
With Phillips, he's a few years out and his development is not likely to stall like Mangiapane's could due to no spots.
I think Mangiapane has a ton of value, it may be worth considering moving him while there is demand on that type of player at that point in his career without running the risk of said development plateau'ing.
But why do you think Phillips should be moved before Mangiapane if it ever came to it?

It's pretty evident he's not plan A, B, or even C for the Flames given their reported interest in Bishop, MAF, Raanta, Smith, etc. No guarantee the Flames are even interested in him so I wouldn't get my hopes up on the Mason being a Flame unless the draft goes by and they still have two roster openings at the position.

he's much better than that, from here (there's some nsfw language) and not to focus on the rankings but just the thoughts on Tanev, from last summer

Chris Tanev is the best shutdown defenseman in the NHL. He's good at doing the defenseman things. His shot suppression prevents 0.3 goals per 60 RelTM compared to an average player..... No one is in the same tier as Tanev when it comes to shot suppression.
