When it comes to lamenting the big hits of the 1990's then get rid of the body armor that is used as a weapon in hitting and replace them with soft shock absorbing Kevlar like pads.
As good and clean a hit on Laine as possible but even then there is a good chance that McCabe's elbow armor made first contact with Laine's chest.

Have you ever been in a fight ? Throwing your hand out in front of your chest is not a defensive position. He turned his body and within about a second Schiefle was on him feeding him shots. That's a sucker!

I know bugs the hell out of me.
seemed to be a perfect beautiful hit, too.
whatever happened to taking a number and getting revenge later, if needed.

My post is referencing the NFL...not the NHL.

Watching the clip on my laptop, and my wife saw it. She does not follow, or know the game much. And she said the hit looked clean, and that Winnipeg was a bunch of idiots for starting the fights.

Haha, well that completely uninformed position settles it then.

Hit was good. Not thunderous but solid, caught him with his head down.
Not sure why people are getting pissy about fights starting after that though. Of course they will -- any star player gets rocked like that and emotions are going to turn up, regardless of it was clean or not.

Sadly, her opinion is as thoughtful and informed as many posters in this thread.

I hope Laine comes out of this okay. He's a special talent and it's so much fun to watch him play the game.

Too bad for the kid, he is fun to watch. I hope he bounces back quickly and this doesn't affect him long term.
It doesn't change my opinion though. Tough, clean hit.

You don't need to have head contact to get a concussion. All it takes is for your brain to rattle around in your skull with enough force to get bruised. Sudden stopping while traveling at a high speed is all it takes sometimes.

Laine should get at least two games for this. BS otherwise. Leading with the head? WTF!
Thats two games after he is cleared to play.

I love the immediate response by Scheifele after the hit, considering the easy thing to do would have been to let Byfuglien deal with it (he was also on the ice).
