Meh, would've been nice to win in the new barn. Love the CP doom and gloom already! Let's give the guys a few games. Christ.

My biggest annoyance is the complete lack of use of preseason. There are 7 frigin preseason games. Did this coaching and management team not think it would best to shave the roster down and get the real team learning the new game plan and strategies asap???

Why weren't these pairings together for 2 weeks now? The fact we hear of it today screams of it being something they just recently drew up.

Treviling, Gulutzan must realize how critical a good start was to the season. Not having Monahan, gaudreau, backlund available for the entire camp can't be the reason other areas like the defense weren't focused on during the month long training camp.

Hopefully just a bad game. But if this turns out to be a slow start again thus season m, shame on all of them.

Talking about his play or the team's? Equally true.

The Hawks lost 5-2.

Let's hopefully put this behind us as this was a weird night all around with the long delay and the horrible officating and destroy them on Friday. They can't dwell on this loss much.

I agree, got to go with your main goalie for the home opener and give him an opportunity to make up a bad game. Better for him to get back into it and try and get into a groove, switch after a bad game could be worse in the long term.

i'd give Elliot 3 straight starts.

the flames couldn't recover from their horrendous start last year... if Elliot is still bad in three games, no way i'd start him for a fourth in a row.

seven starts like that debacle would really put this team behind the 8 ball early

Man, what is with the Wideman hate? Despite being targeted by the refs he was solid. No big gaffes, couple good outlets, scored a goal. Pretty solid IMO. I'd be fine with:

Gio-Brodie
Hamilton - Wideman
Kevin - Kulak/Engelland

Grossman: you know the drill ➡️☀️

I don't see Elliot as a throw your team under the bus type. Just because he looked like Hiller tonight, it doesn't mean he is Hiller.

For a team with better goaltending and supposedly one of the best defensive cores in the league, that was a lot of goals against

I feel that the spread the wealth approach can never ever be popular among the top defensemen. Would have been interesting to hear their uncensored thoughts coming into this game. Hopefully it's going to be corrected.

That was ugly. I know Elliot will rebound, but that was a tough game from him no question. Big guys just weren't good enough. Johnny looked good at times, but defintely looked like a guy that missed camp. Monahan was very quiet. Gio and Brodie not good enough either.

Don't understand having Grossman in the lineup at all. Terrible giveaway barely a minute in and just got worst after that. Constantly beat to pucks and for a big guy didn't win many battles on the boards either. Jokipakka had better be in on Friday.

Hopefully they can just forget about this one and come out and get the win on Friday. I will not be able to stand losing two straight to these guys.

Makes sense... Even in losses we put up a fight.

The Hawks have made the playoffs for a decade straight and have 3 cups. They have earned forgiveness for a bad start.

We have not.

We've started slow for a decade and have won nothing.

Plus they lost to a good team. We lost to the @&$#ing Oilers.

Gulutzan brought this on himself the minute he screwed around with every D pairings. Some coaches tinker a little bit. He litterly dismantled our D.

Remember that there were 11 goals the entire game. The Flames scored on the Oil 4 times. Even with the atrocious officiating.

The Oilers think outscoring the opponent to win is the solution, but it's always a recipe for disaster. Same story every year. Flames will improve, Oilers gonna oil.

Nothing is out of the ordinary here.

Wideman can't keep up with the NHL speed anymore. His PP goal and play to prevent a goal by tying up Eberle's stick were his only real good moments. Other than that, he was getting more and more exposed badly as the game wore on.

The game is passing him by.

So who hired him? Treliving got his job without the Flames even interviewing anyone else. Give Gulutzan some time, he's not the main reason this team is disjointed so early into his first season.

The problem is that he *does* seem to be targeted by the refs - and so it seems are the Flames. Not so much that it's obvious, but they don't get calls that they might, and they do often seem to get called on very borderline plays. Over a season that's gotta hurt.

I thought Wideman was just OK tonight - there were lots of bigger problems.
