Gio/Brodie is a joy to watch.

Don't rob me of that ever again

After the first two shots I had the same feeling inside when Hiller was in net last year, the flashbacks were horrible.

Assuming Chad Johnson starts on Friday, and back to Eliot on Saturday?

I think the reality is that Grossman is just to slow to really be doing anything in the offensive zone. If Brodie, Giordano, or Hamilton carry the puck in, they are all fast enough to get back defensively if they turn the puck over. Guys like Grossman, Wideman, and Engelland not so much. It was a dumb play by Grossman, just like his terrible pass up the middle for the Oilers 1st goal.

Elliott certainly didn't help himself other than that great glove save and 2-on-1 save off Lucic... but it seemed like the team really hung him out to dry early.

My concern is that it is obvious to everyone except the guy that makes that decision. If Gulutzan is bullish on his new pairings it could be a long season.

No, Paul Jerrard is in charge of the defense and PK. Cameron is PP and working with the forwards

They need to put Elliott back out there right away. No game off.

If Gulutzan changes them after clearly seeing how it worked, then I'll be fine. But seeing what happened and not fixing will not fly

We have 3 great D-men on this team. Pairing each of them with a plug does not spread the greatness... it spreads the suck. Suck is dominant gene.
I recall when B.Sutter used to experiment with D pairings, trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. I hope Gulutzan's doesn't prove to be as stubborn as we lost lots a lot of points in the beginning of the season during those little experiments.

It has to be noted Kris Russell was really good tonight. I'm glad he's not a Flame but good for him for coming into camp very late and being one of the few if only defenseman on the ice that looked NHL caliber.

It has to change doesn't it? I mean you would think they'd change Jokipakka for Grossman at the least.

Yeah it's still a bad play to give away the puck even if someone is supposed to cover for you. At least get it behind the defense.

@WesGilbertson:

#Flames G Brian Elliott: “It’s one of those things — what could go wrong did go wrong. That's not the way you want to start the season.”
