Yeah, better the Conservatives never utter any support for LGBT issues at all. The most important thing here is to sustain angry political partisanship.

They weren't stellar at it at one point, so they probably just shouldn't even try anymore.

They can talk the talk, sort of, but can they walk the walk?

That's why the Pride parade is mostly meaningless. You get a bunch of two-faced political pandering.
Even the liberal parties didn't have a stellar record until about ten years ago. A lot of those people marching probably are gay themselves. Fiscally conservative gays is not a new thing. It's great they have more confidence expressing themselves. Is it two faced? It's much harder to stand up for gay rights as a conservative party member. These marches are also public, so it's not a case of hiding expression in one environment and giving the opposite in another.

And the whole taking the T out of the slogan really is grasping at straws.

Blankall makes a great point. It takes way way more guts to march as a Tory than any other party member. Layton was the worst for outright pandering.

Considering they were in power for 10 years and it seems nothing changed, I'd guess so.

It takes true courage and guts to take a populist stance.

Yeah, I'm aware there are fiscally conservative gays. Hi.

It's two faced because it's what you do as a party that defines you, not what event you show up to. Being gay and fiscally conservative isn't some magic thing that wows the LGBTQ community, there are a significant amount of people just like that. It's not brave, or admirable. It's just life. Being gay doesn't restrict you to certain political leanings.

The point is that marching is easy. It's easy to say "Look, we support you" without actually showing support on a policy level. Actually support the community in your actions as a party, and then march all you want. It has nothing to do with some "if you were bad once why try" boneheaded nonsense, it's about not taking the easiest, most meaningless showing of support and think it's enough. This is not saying "Hey, Liberals good, Conservatives bad" because yeah, the Liberals are pretty new at being ok at it too. This isn't about certain parties marching in the parade and whether they're allowed: The point is that marching in the parade is meaningless when you do very little to support the LGBTQ community otherwise.

And no, the changing of the T isn't grasping at straws, unless you have basically zero respect for what the T stands for. It's not the biggest issue, but it's completely ignorant.

Way to completely miss the point on every level. This is a perfect example of partisanship, where you can't even criticise a party without being accused of not supporting them or being on "the other side."

This is the thread where i learned LGBT parades are serious business and not meant to be fun or enjoyable. Need to find out where the next one is so I can shoehorn in my own political agenda - solemnly of course.

Be careful you don't cut yourself on all that edge.

Why would they use the "T"? So everyone at the parade goes, "those mother#%&#ers" stole the T!"

Or was it purposeful? Even I'm a little confused. Pretty dumb.

This is funny because

1. I don't vote Conservative

2. People are criticising the PC's for doing the same crap every party does. That is partisan.

Hardly, when my point is that unsupported political pandering at the Pride parade is an example of why it's mostly a showy corporate thing people show up to for the "likes," any political party will do.

This isn't a criticism on the PCs individually, that picture is just an example of a broad issue. Unlike you, I do support the Conservatives on a significant range of issues. Feel free to bring up examples of the Liberals and the NDP putting on a show, others have about Layton specifically, it just strengthens my point. Nothing partisan about it.

Agreed, the thread should continue to be about a movement that overplayed their hand long ago hijacking the parade of a community that they, in general, have a level of support for that's about 15 years behind the average.

I'm pretty sure BLM was founded by members of the LGBT community. It may have morphed/been hijacked but certainly has strong roots there.

That's probably correct, I supported BLM when it first started up, felt it was pretty legit. It's absolutely morphed into something pretty tantrum laden though.

Hey what do you know another black man was gunned down in his car by the police in Minnesota. "Tantrum laden" indeed.
