Last year Hamilton this year Elliott.
Tkachuk and Elliott that is a couple big off season priorities checked off.

I think elliot reported a couple hours ago that blues were willing to trade elliot for the 35th overall

I think having a solid veteran starter in Elliott will allow Ortio to flourish with confidence and a half decent workload. There are goalies available it seems. Pittsburg will be begging someone to take Fleury if Murray is for real. If Elliott/Ortio isn't working out halfway through, there will be options to change things. I'm fine starting the seasonw ith those two.

He's going to be 32 at the end of next year and hasn't played 50 games since the Vancouver Olympics. He's going to get an Andersen deal if all goes well and I'll happily sign him @ 5/$25M

Treliving: "We really like him. His numbers over the past 3 years have been really impressive. We love the acquisition cost and we love the player."

Not really. The market for goalies has never been all that strong. Consequence of there being more decent goalies than starting spots. The only goalies getting higher picks are young goalies expected to be elite and who can be controlled for many years. Even a goalie like Bishop - who arguably fulfils that elite spot - won't fetch that due to his pending UFA status. And Bishop is a few steps above Fleury.
The Pens screwed themselves by overreaching.

Not super stoked, but he isn't bad. The acquisition cost and contract are fine.

Blues have been very high on Allen for a few years and have done a good job of grooming him. Not surprised they are ready to anoint him as their #1.
There are so many reasons to be stoked on Elliot coming to the Flames but the biggest reason is the flexibility he brings. Having so little committed to a starting goalie next year is huge and you get a year with him before further committing also allowing for Gillies to grow. Going all in for MAF or Bishop could have worked but this way risk is minimized and you get a proven goalie.
I was ecstatic to get Tkachuk at 6th but getting Elliot for only a second put me over the top happy with this draft given the risk involved with other options.

Not a huge fan of Elliot but love the cost and the cap hit next year. Leaves the Flames with a ton of options still

Can it be October yet? I can't wait to have a capable goalie behind this team. I hope BT isn't done and can add to this roster to give us an even better shot at playoffs next season and not just into round 1.
