I went with Housley.
Hard to defend voting for Brodie over Housley. Their tenure with the Flames is similar (328 games vs. 336 games). One guy is in the Hall of Fame, the other shows a lot of potential.

For me, McCrimmon is next after Reinhart. A lot of people believed Mark Howe carried him in Philly, and thought Cliff Fletcher was nuts because he traded for the wrong member of that defence pair. Turned out Cliff was right and the critics were wrong.
When Sarge arrived in Calgary, Jamie Macoun was out for the year after major nerve surgery, and it was uncertain whether he would ever come back. McCrimmon not only filled Macoun's skates, he made the Flames' defence look better than it ever had before. The team won their first Presidents' Trophy that year. The following year, with both McCrimmon and Macoun in the lineup, they were the best defensive team in hockey after Patrick Roy's Canadiens.
Some other defencemen were flashier, some stayed longer with the team. But without Brad McCrimmon, they would not have won the Stanley Cup. Of that I'm certain.
(But Macoun is next after McCrimmon. I was overjoyed when Jamie made his comeback and we got to have them both.)

Went with Housley. No denying what some others brought to the table, its just if I was drafting in an expansion draft, based on the player they were with the Flames, I take Housley over everyone else.

I can't vote for Housley. He was a fine player but as a defenceman he had to be used properly, meaning he couldn't play in all situations, whereas Brodie can play in all situations.

I see what you are saying, but I think you are getting caught in the minutia a little bit. Of the names already added to the list, and the ones left for voting, Housley is the only legitimate consistent All Star / no brainer option for their best on best national team roster we have besides Big Al and Suter. To me he's easily the 3rd best D-man ever to suit up for the Flames, no questions asked.
Sorry, should clarify I mean career to date. Brodie and Gio even have plenty of time to surpass him IMO (Gio as you can see may have already done so in the minds of many posters) by their time as Flames are done.

Well for the same reasons I said about Housley, I wouldn't include Suter on my list so far either.
For me a defenceman needs to be able to play defence.

I hope this comes across appropriately as I say it, I'm viewing this entire conversation as a good fun debate  Leaving Suter off of a Flames Top 6 D man of all time list is just nuts! I can understand not liking the guy, but he's easily one of the best 6 to play the back end for this franchies

I suppose Housley is worthy, but I still think his best years were with Buffalo and Winnipeg, not Calgary. I still prefer Macoun/McCrimmon.

He had a PPG season as a Flame, as well as a 0.8ppg and .7 ppg season here as well. Pretty impressive numbers.

Absolutely, multiple seasons where he hit a point per game with the Flames. Regardless of any deficiencies he may or may not have, those type of players don't grow on trees. Passing up that kind of offence generation from the back end would be nuts, nuts I tell ya.

Housley's time as a Flame, for the most part, was playing out his career on a bad Flames team. Nothing he did with the Flames was HOF worthy.

Suter-McCrimmon was the best defence pairing in the NHL that season, and they were 2nd team all-stars. There are only a handful of times post Original Six that two defencemen on the same team have been named NHL all-stars (Robinson-Savard, Lidstrom-Chelios, Niedermeyer-Pronger). McCrimmon was the real deal.
