For the return this trade is tar too early to make. Florida got a great deal.
Flames should have held out until the teams start getting in on the frenzy of being left out compared to what their competition is doing.
Hudler should have got a 1st and a 4th or 2 2nds if they were patient. The 4th round pick isn't until 2018. That is a joke Treliving.

Ya seems like a fair return for a rental player with the apparent surplus of wingers available.

I liked having Hudler on the Flames so I'm disappointed to see him traded though it's clear why he was traded.

I am probably in the minority here but I think the Flames should look to re sign him in the summer.

"He was playing injured." is actually:

Hudler played poorly in the playoffs because he couldn't withstand the physical toll of stretch drive and playoff play.

If you're hiring someone to dig a ditch it doesn't matter how many words they type per minute.

We need help now I would be going after young prospects if I were him the core is pretty much in the NHL already outside of one or two pieces.
Oh good lord. Yes, literally ANYBODY could have made that trade. Anybody at all. Anything just to avoid having to give Treliving credit, eh?

Thank effing god Trelving isn't as shortsighted as you are.

Return seems about right... Not sure why people think we could have more for a 32 yr old impending UFA.

The aforementioned "rather have a prospect" doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless there is a specific one you are thinking of... Calgary just got back two prospects; we just don't know who they are yet

Bit of a stretch in logic there, flash. Getting injured in game 82 doesn't mean he couldn't/can't "withstand the physical toll" of the playoffs.

I'm happy we got anything and didn't watch a UFA waltz quietly into the night, again.

This is somewhat disappointing as a return, but not catastrophic by any means. Still, how the hell did Polak get a better return?

I think it's a pretty fair deal. If Hudler had played this season like he had last season we probably get a better return. But his play this year has been well below than expected so value drops.

With the extra contract spot, the Flames could negotiate a deal with Derek grant for next season. give him a tryout with the main roster and don't risk losing him to UFA

D-man.

Also, it was Polak and Spaling with Torress heading the other way.

Yea that very clearly documented drubbing he took to the ribs from Regehr right before the playoffs started (and the ensuing talk from Flames Insiders about his health all through that time period) is sure him being "unable to withstand the physical toll of the playoffs"

In case you were unaware:

Hudler was a .5 point per game player on a cup winning team in previous years.

Really bizarre and nonsensical comments about the guy on his way out to call him out on last years playoffs.

I guess the Glencross deal that Treliving made last season really put a lot of people's expectations out of whack. I thought this would have been a more happy thread.

This is a fair deal. I thought Hudler should get at least a 2nd and he did.

This is market value. Maybe the return would be better a year earlier, but the market is flooded with forwards, just like the Cammy year

Sounds like the Panthers pushed for the deal to be done now while the Flames would have preferred to wait an extra day or two, but decided they were comfortable with the deal.
Gives some insight on a potential Russell trade. Glencross was traded less than a day before the deadline ended, Baertschi minutes before. Seems Treliving doesn't mind waiting a little. Doubt we'll see Russell gone tonight.

It's an awful return. But at least they get something, and more importantly didn't pay premium dollars to extend the player. Now to off Jones, Russell, Hiller, Wideman, Engelland, Smid, Bolling, Backlund, Frolik, Bouma, Cobourne, Giordano, Monahan....basically anyone who's not Gaudrea, Bennet, Brodie, or Hamilton.
