Good return IMO for rental. This last stretch of games likely added that extra 4th round pick, as his injuries from last year caused him to not be in shape for this year, and he paid the price for it. Also helps that clearly FLA is going for it.
Appreciation to Hudler for:
1)Being that skilled player that IMO has vaulted Monahan but certainly Johnny's devlopment. Having a like minded skilled player as those two on the top line the last 2 seasons has made the transition for JG so much easier and its pretty clear how talented he is; but that help from Hudler has make that a lot clearer a lot sooner. How that top line hole gets filled now, we'll see.
Some big goals:
2) Against the Kings last year where he later got crushed by Regher, the start of his injuries. But the GWG in a playoff clinching game:
2. The 2 goals against the Canucks in Game 6. That's after 2 assists including the 3-3 goal. The game tying 4-4 goal was a display of fantastic skill.
3. The beating he took on the Backlund ANA goal...have to watch the whole shift, but he drew the penalty and caused all sorts of issues in front of the net on the leadup to the penalty, and then after. Focus on him here:
4) Other Hudler highlight are of course his award acceptance speech last year, and, him swearing at the refs (someone here has the gif) after the accused him of diving. This was last season or the season before in Phoenix I think.

The return is slightly on the low end in my view. Clearly there wasn't as much demand for him as I thought or hoped there might be. Feels like the market doesn't value his offensive potential as much as those of us who got to watch him a lot.
Great fit in Florida if you think about the lineup. Hopefully he's healthy and ready to make a great playoff run.

Not a great trade in my mind. Not a trainwreck though and happy they preserved some value. I believe that it was the best they were offered I just question how much negotiating went into this. Unlikely obviously that either a late second or 4th pick in 2 years will ever play for the Flames. So for a 70 point player last year who is struggling this year but due to injury (see his recent play after getting healthy)... not a great trade. Just my opinion, but there will always be people who defend anything and everything the Flames do no matter what.
Hudler's poor showing in the playoffs last year I think played a larger part in his lower value than I believe some think.
You're hiring someone to do a job. If that job is shovelling dirt, how they performed in their last office environment doesn't matter, what matters is how they performed the last time they were shoveling dirt.
The last time Hudler was shovelling dirt, he looked terrible.
...
Also, why are they not a cup contender next season either? That's the part that didn't make much sense to me.
Come on, Cali, do you seriously believe Florida can clear Washington this season? Willing to bet a beer they can't.

It's too bad none of him, Wideman or Hiller could have been moved for younger parts in the offseason when their value was high. Market must not have been there. Gotta think the fall off in play by those three vets played a significant role in the season being so bad.
Oh well, hate to take the Oilers mentality, but if we get one of the top 5 guys in the draft for the next 10 years I think we'll be closer to a cup in the long run anyway.
Teams want skill but they also want size...Hudler has played better of late but most playoff teams already have their skilled guys upfront and want more versatile players
Good return overall...everyone is saying how well Florida has done, unless they win the cup (very unlikely) they just gave up a ton of picks for nothing
Andrew Ladd is a better player than Jiri Hudler is. There's your rationale.
Based on what the Jets got for him Ladd (compared to what the Flames got for Bouwmeester and Iginla and Hudler) is just waiting for his spot in the HOF.
Yes I do. They're one of the few teams that can handle them well. Haven't lost in regulation to them this year. What more do you want?
Luongo will do his playoff thing. Washington goes all the way to the final this time. Just a super strong team this season.

Well, the Iginla and Bouwmeester trades led to that GM losing his job...so....yeah
Sounds like the Panthers pushed for the deal to be done now while the Flames would have preferred to wait an extra day or two, but decided they were comfortable with the deal.
