I voted underwhelming partially because of the 2018. That's a long way out when considering the already long development path.
I was hoping for a 2nd + 3rd this year - a 4th would've been just okay. If the Panthers were set on 2018 I would've expected certainly more than a 4th if not more than a 3rd.
That said, getting picky over mid picks is exactly that: picky. So: shrug.

He was gifted Hamilton to spite the Oil as I recall, so really anybody sitting in his seat as the Flames GM could of pulled it off. Glencross I will give him but I just think he is not that good honestly. Maybe i'm holding him to too high a standard looking at guys like Stan Bowman and Dave Talon but I think BT is just average to below average. We need help now I would be going after young prospects if I were him the core is pretty much in the NHL already outside of one or two pieces.
I probably don't think they get much more if they do hold out. I would think that having the team on the east coast on trade deadline day had something to with just getting it done now.
It's an okay return, it's definitely not a great return.
Would have preferred a deal for a prospect, especially packaged for a better prospect.
For those arguing his season wasn't great, and his playoffs last year weren't great - true. But injuries played a (big) part in both, and when assessing players, you have to be able to see past that.
I think it was a mistake dealing now and not being patient through the weekend. But whatever.
Expected over reaction, someone floats out a dream return of Nichushkin or Drouin and that sets the bar, and when it comes no where near that, it gets panned.
Sounds like Treliving had a number of offers and took the best one.
One other thing to consider, it sounds like some teams have switched to sell mode like Carolina and NJ, which means there's going to be more supply on the market. Could be smart of Treliving to move Hudler first as the winger UFA market can completely fall out on you.

I voted "Less than Expected". I'm not hugely disappointed, I just thought that Treliving might hit another home run like the Glencross and Hamilton trades. Chicago trading a first and good prospect for Ladd had me thinking prices might be on the rise and that Hudler could get 2 seconds or a 2nd and a decent prospect.
I'll miss Hudler as well. He was awesome for the vast majority of his time here.

The best part about those people is that they seem to forget that it takes 2 to tango. No doubt Treliving probably wanted a 1st rounder and a decent prospect. But guess what folks, most GMs don't want to screw their own team for a smallish UFA rental on the wrong side of 30 who isn't having a good season and who has no guarantee of staying. Read that again: Hudler is a smallish UFA rental on the wrong side of 30 who isn't having a good season and who has no guarantee of staying.
If this was the best the Flames' could get, then that's the best they could get. The problem isn't that Trevling didn't get enough. The problem is that people overrate our own players and their worth and the set themselves up for disappointment around this time of the year.
I'll miss Huds. He was great for us almost his entire time and his mentor-ship to Johnny and Monahan was invaluable. And don't forget we got him for free as a UFA. So we pretty much got a 2nd rounder and 4th round pick for free.
