Sure you can. We traded Bourque while he was under suspension.

It just becomes harder as a bubble team that might want him would know he can't help get them into the playoffs while under suspension.

My guess - Bettman will uphold the suspension and let the arbitrator decide OR he will reduce it to 10 games, secretly contingent on Wideman agreeing not to pursue it further with an arbitrator.

This is true, but I also think that if I am Bettman, I would be wary to test the neutral arbitrator on an abuse of official case as well.

I do think that the NHLPA will use an independent arbitrator in this case unless the suspension is reduced to what they feel is fair (which I won't guess at). I think it is probably as good a time as any to test this process out, and in a case like this, I would feel the NHL would be more wary than the NHLPA in relation to an independent arbitrator.

John Shannon @JSportsnet
Wideman hearing continues.Over 3 1/2 hours after it began.Sounds like there are contentious procedural issues. Lawyers arguing with lawyers.

Wideman vs. Bettman? Both have 'man' in their names? Coincidence? I think not? Lizard-Men? Possibly.

My prediction is that Bettman is trying to find a number that the Wideman and the NHLPA side can live with so that they don't go to a an arbitrator. That has a bigger chance of blowing up on the NHL than it does on Wideman's side IMO.

If they can't decide on a number, Bettman will uphold the 20 games and take their chances.

If it goes to an arbitrator, I think they will call it time-served and Wideman will play the next game after that. Of course, by that time, Wideman will probably have been out for 10 games anyway, so that is probably Bettman's floor right now. They certainly don't want to end up owing him money if an arbitrator decides even 10 was too much.

The NHL video would be a pretty easy target for the PA...they made some mighty assumptions.

Linesman still out with a concussion, I suspect a miraculous recovery after all appeals are exhausted

Arb will go Wideman's way, this is a harsh sentence for a first ever offence and they have tons of comparables that may not be exactly the same but all got ZERO games...you can't just "send a message" and cost a guy half a million dollars. (owner has to pay this money to the PA emergency fund too)

A recovery as miraculous as the one Wideman experienced?

Not sure what you're suggesting. Some guys who've had concussions are out of it right away, recover quickly - the first few times. Later on becomes slower and harder.

OTOH, some guys get one and they're done.

A rare few seem to have no immediate or long-term symptoms or effects.

Seems to be the gen - depends on the person, the body and the situation. No two really the same.

Flash is mocking dino7c's duplicity in arguing the linesman is faking it while defending Wideman, who is also viewed by some of faking it.

Basically, dino7c is still of the opinion that Don Henderson is responsible for Dennis Wideman's actions.
