Wideman's not the stupidest idiot to ever step foot on the ice. No chance this was intentional. There would be no logic to it. What would it even be in reaction to?

Sounds a bit like that ad populum thing we learned about earlier, no?
That was not an argument in favour of suspending Wideman. I was providing an example as to why this has a thread and is being discussed.

I have nothing to add, but I read through this entire thread because it started funny and only got better. 'This Post is Terrible' is the vigilante hero we don't nearly deserve.

Initially, I thought Wideman had intent; but after seeing the other camera angle from TSN, my opinion has undergone a complete 180. In the other (overhead) camera angle, Wideman bumps into the referree and then extends his arms and pushes him. In the familiar from-the-back angle, when Wideman bumps into the linesman, it looks like one complete motion with him pushing afterwards; hence, why it looks so violent.

This makes alot of sense. Wideman in his career hasn't been known as a dirty player. The only incident that I can think of where he walked along the line would be when he jumped Kesler; but that, imo, was moreso Kesler than Wideman.

Also, does it make any sense that Wideman would skate half the ice to deliver a violent crosscheck to a linesman, when its well-known to not even lay a finger on them?

The more I think about it, the more it's painfully obvious that it was incidental and an overreaction from some people (and understandably so), due to the misleading, initial camera angle.

Come on. If that's intentional I'm the king of Uzbekistan. Dude was concussed and someone should be answering for letting him play
Are you suggesting that since you can't explain why he did it, there's no way it was intentional?

Let me know how that works out for you.

Completely agree. It looks intentional in the angle we saw intially, but in the other angle (thanks for mentioning that, found it and linked below), it does look like he tries to pull up. It's at about 56 seconds in.

That's a silly argument. We're all trying to find the most obvious answer. Occam's Rasor.

Ok, I am not going to argue one way or the other but lets stop using the "dude was concussed" excuse as Wideman himself stated that was not the case, that he had some shoulder and neck pain and that was all.

What a weird play. I think the linesman will protect Wideman.

Maybe a game or two.

If its a big suspension im done.

I think Wideman had his head down and wasn't aware the linesman was there until the last minute, when he instinctively put his hands and stick up to protect himself and deviate his course to the bench. Looks bad but accidental.

Having said that I hope the NHL throws a library of books at him and suspends him for the net 116 games. If Treliving can't trade him that would at least get him the hell out of our lineup for the remainder of his contract.

strange play, but he'll get zero games. He was totally out of it, it was a defensive cross check, he didn't see him there.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Don't expect the NHL to act swiftly on Wideman decision. Colin Campbell is in charge of process and has time to consider all angles.

That looked very intentional. 12 games is my guess. What a loser wideman is.

You say cross check. I say he brought his hands up reflexively. I don't think that's a stretch - I think it's the most logical explanation.

Looking at TSN's site this morning, you'd think Wideman shot the linesman.

The officials have no heart at all. I mean one of their guys got hit from behind and no one jumped in to defend him (even if it was an accident). That's bush league.

Maybe! The Fan this morning suggested Ramo was taken down by a sniper following his bump into Johansen.
