Ah, but will it have stop lights in it? Then we can be a Big City at last, just like Edmonton!

Not really. The City has already allocated $200MM to the field house.
Re: CLR. Right now there is next to no tax money from this area. With this development there will be lots. A portion of that goes to pay for the redevelopment, leaving higher revenue.
$200MM from the owners.
$250MM from the users via ticket tax.
And it will be a City asset.
Seems very reasonable to me.

Looks to be like $400-500 in public money they are asking for seeing $200 million has already been committed to the field house. Not chump change that's for sure.

Man, an accountant should not be paying loose and fast with numbers. $200 million of an $890 million project. Based on the comment about remediation, the Flames will be paying some of that as well.
We'll see how that all shakes out when more details emerge. I doubt the Flames went forward with that slide without having some idea of how feasible it is.

Well it's not up to the Flames what happens at that site. So no point in them putting a lot of work into that.

Want to have a translucent stadium roof
30k stadium expandable to 50k, roughly same as now for arena.

Maybe I should clarify. I meant have involvement. 900 million means 9 million. You can't put aside even 1 million for students to build a thing or two along path ways etc?
I didn't mean build things for the arena, but the surrounding pathways and parks etc.
Is it seriously that juvenile to hope we could pour a little bit of the money into local artists? This is a legacy project and nothing in the area would be designed by locals?

Yea, YEA.. like a $25 million dollar BRIDGE THAT'S GLOWY and RED!
While expensive, its hard to argue against having something like this in the city of Calgary, we'll see what happens.

But also as a Flames fan, I realize that when the public sees that the Flames will be funding less than 25% of the cost (and that doesn't even include revitalization), this thing won't even get off the ground.
I am quite disappointed that it took KK this long to prepare something that I think is going to be rejected unanimously by the public.

Well...yeah. Kind of.
If we take for granted that the City is cool with just handing the Flames their $200M cheque for a fieldhouse and focus on the rest we havent even scratched the surface of the real costs yet.

Depends if the city wants to be left behind the rest of Canada and N.A or join the 21st century. $500 million to re-define an important part of the city doesn't sound like a lot.

Agree, the optics need some work.
Flames - $200M
City (for the field house) - $200M
'Province' (unclear what they get)
Fans - $250M (above what will likely be raised prices)
btw - a $250M ticket tax would likely result in a $10 fee to every ticket (hockey, football, music, etc) for 20-25 years

On initial thought, I'd have to say I'm disappointed with how little the Flames are ponying up. I think KK has underestimated the public backlash that may occur over the optics of the financing. The public debate could be a lengthy and unpleasant one, IMO.
