I don't think that is part of this - the numbers I am seeing are just size in square footage.

In the past, the Flames have said they prefer a smaller seating capacity than present. The trend in the NHL has been towards around 18,000 as a sweet spot. It certainly will not seat more than the Dome.

Yeah let's get college kids to design public art for a 1 billion dollar facility instead of contracting world-renowned and more qualified artists.

Small town thinking like this drives me crazy

King said in a previous STH meeting that it will hold 19k

That's the cost of one interchange and it would actually benefit most calgarians.

Don Braid @DonBraid
The total - $890 million - nowhere near cost. Doesn’t include West Village, infrastructure, creosote cleanup #calgarynext #chlive #yyccc

It's not asking for anything more then what the city already had planned. The $200mm was to go to a fieldhouse anyways.

So basically almost $700 million in public money? Yeah that's gonna be a ridiculously tough sell. I was expecting an ask of about half that....and thought that would be a tough sell.

Yeah no thanks.

Looks great but 440M in public funds, then having the city be on the hook for a 250M loan that they have to collect ticket taxes for.

And this doesn't count the remediation.

$1.2B is not the proposed budget for #CalgaryNEXT. Full info is coming at the 2:30 session including this clarification.

McMahon re-development rendering is a little lazy...just a copy-and-paste of current UofC buildings

To be fair, the city was gonna pony up a bunch of that cash for a fieldhouse anyway.

They tried mitigating it by glossing it over with some fancy 'repurposing plans' for the 'Dome and McMahon, but yeah, as I previously stated, they're not fronting enough cash.

Interesting thing to note: a big ass traffic circle proposed at the south end of the 14th street bridge.

How much rent does the city get to collect from the Flames and Stamps? Who keeps the revenue from the concerts?

I was not aware of that. That could help with the $200M coming directly from the City but even still...

This is a lot more than I was expecting.
