A 2nd and 4th would be what I'd want. If we retained 50% of his contract, I could see a 2nd and a good prospect if a team really wanted to overpay.

I know this, and I also think Ortio is in the NHL next season.

I am as well. The more I look into Talbot, the more potential I see for a home run.

Maybe Treliving only pulls the trigger if we can get at least a 2nd rounder back for Hiller at the same time, hopefully a higher one. So really we'd only be spending one of our seconds on the goalie situation. I'd be ok with this.

A lot of people in this thread have a lot of faith in Hiller/Ortio tandem. While Hiller was solid last year, he often looked like he was about to fall off the rails and Hartley would switch to Ramo, letting Hiller get it together again. If the same pattern holds true, using Ortio as they did Ramo next year could blow up big time. There is a lot of potential risk, at the moment, with the Flames goaltending situation.
I can't really speak to Talbot as I know nothing about him. If they do acquire him, they must think he can either be a more traditional number one with Ortio as backup, or perhaps they let all three work it out in camp. Starting goaltenders have to come from somewhere, usually as a backup, so I am not as concerned with Talbot's inexperience as others.
Not sure where Ramo fits in all of this. It certainly seems like he is not in the plans, for whatever reason.

A decision will need to be made, as i doubt Ortio would make it thru Waivers.

Yes, we are in agreement. Ortio is here next year. But two other NHL goalies would need to be as well, which is what I'm asking about. I don't see that happening.

FWIW Ren Lavoie says he would be very surprised if Talbot gets traded to Calgary. Says San Jose has more interest.

The thing that makes the least sense about all of this is that Talbot is not young and he's a UFA next summer. You shouldn't expect him to get better at his current age. Would be very disappointed if this happened.

It would take a small miracle for Ortio to beat out Hiller for a spot. If or when Ortio becomes an NHL regular, it will probably be as a back-up or 1B at best.
And I can't envision a scenario where Treliving gives up a 2nd rounder or two on draft day for Talbot and doesn't give him the benefit of the doubt going into the season. He would be pretty much writing his ticket out of town to give up those assets only to lose Talbot on waivers or see him go the minors.

I agree It's doubtful Ramo gets re-signed in Calgary.

I don't disagree, I just think it's not an uncommon problem for goalies, including ones we view from the outside as being good ones. I've seen the same comments over the past few seasons for Crawford, Luongo, Howard, Dubnyk, Anderson, Price (!), etc.

And I'm of the opposite opinion. If price is the same, I would rather have Talbot.

Good point. If the Flames can get a 2nd back for Hiller and give up two 2nds to get Talbot - the net cost of upgrading the position is a 2nd. Not bad.

Unless someone offers NYR a 1st rd pick for Talbot, which I doubt, that deal may wait 'til Saturday. Sather will try for a 1st tonight.

If the Flames get a 2nd back for Hiller, that is highway robbery. I would be happy with a 3rd, but that even seems too high.

I'll be surprise if #rangers Cam Talbot is traded to the Flames. Hearing the Sharks have a lot of interest. #tvasports

I don't get this. Ortio has been great. AHL all star that killed it when he was up last year and Hiller is obviously a solid 1a/b guy.
Not a fan at all. We're set in goal. Why waste assets on more goalies.
