Martinez and Muzzin aren't bottom pairing Dmen. Especially Muzzin, who is a top pair Dman.

Talbot to Calgary? I'll believe it when I see it.

I'd be OK with two seconds for Talbot.
Generally speaking, most second rounders never get a taste of the NHL. If you can get a decent #1 goalie for two picks, then you do it.

Jones would be our starter. Martinez or Muzzin would slot in on our second pair. That would be a solid hockey deal for the Flames.

Cam Talbot's time in the NHL has been very impressive.
2013/2014: 21 GP, 1.64 GAA, .941 S% (1st GAA, 1st S%)
2014/2015: 36 GP, 2.21 GAA, .926 S% (4th best GAA, 4th best S%)
Yeah, not the biggest sample size - but he's done nothing but succeed at the NHL level.
Dubnyk is about to make big dollars after sucking for a long long time and then putting together a good 39 games for Minnesota.
Goalies are weird.

Assuming you are going with _____+ Ortio, I think you need a really steady guy on and off the ice. Hiller seems that way, do Talbot or Jones? Dubnyk had a bit of a rep for an atitude issue but apparently this changed when he had a kid.

That quote is about which teams are actually open to trade their first round selections (i.e. moving up or down in the first round).

I tend to agree with everything you said. The one issue for me was there was a period of time where it seemed like the Flames goalies were allowing at least one soft goal per game. The odd bad goal happens don't get me wrong, but when it starts costing teams games, it becomes a huge area of concern...
I haven't seen a ton of Cam Talbot but is he really worth giving up potentially multiple assets to acquire?
I really like the idea of running with Hiller and Ortio. The latter looked fantastic in all but one or two of the games he played last season.
The only way that acquiring Talbot makes sense to me is if there is a plan in place to move Hiller out and Treliving has no intention of re-signing Ramo.

I would be cool with Talbot-Ortio going into next year. Fits with the youth movement and has the potential to be a great tandem.
However at the cost of two 2nds, I am unsure about this. We need help on D moreso than we need help at goalie, IMO.

In this draft, I wouldn't be OK with it at all.
I mean whatever happens will happen, but I don't see it as a good move.

I can actually envision a scenario where the Flames add a goalie to the mix (Eg Talbot) and don't subtract one (Eg Hiller).
I don't think they are going to gift Ortio an NHL spot, back up or otherwise. Even with the waiver situation.

I get the "soft goal" sentiment, but if you lok at a lot of fan websites, they say the exact same thing about their goalies.
I think Treliving would have wrapped up Ramo by now if it was going to happen. Unless he has a deal in principle but doesn't want to announce it for fear of affecting a Hiller trade value.

There's only two ways you can acquire an elite goalie.
1. Draft him
2. Acquire him before he becomes elite
Clearly some teams in the NHL believe Talbot fits into #2.

And only 20 or 25% stick around for longer than 100 games. Even a smaller percentage of those become impact players.
I get it, it's draft day, we all love the hype surrounding these kids, but really, outside the top 5 or 10 players, most of the draft is a crap shoot.

I'm growing warmer to this idea.
If Ramo is indeed headed for what he believes are greener pastures, and the Flames are not sold on a Hiller/Ortio combo for next season, then I think picking up Talbot (who is entering his prime and has put up consistent numbers) gives them a pretty decent stop-gap until one of Gillies/McDonald/Ortio emerges as a legitimate #1.
I would be fine with a Talbot/Ortio combo (less so with a Talbot/Hiller combo), and if it costs 2 X 2nd round picks and you are able to recuperate at least a pick for Hiller as a consolation prize for one of the failed bidders then you might come away OK.
Would Hiller be worth a 2nd and a 3rd, or a 2nd and a B grade prospect?

Flames have already mentioned the plan for Gillies next year is AHL, he needs to play lots of games...
(Flames GM mentioned this via Fan960).

I honestly remember a string of games (don't remember how many) where I could have sworn there was what could be classified as a "bad goal" let in almost every game by Hiller or Ramo.
I agree It's doubtful Ramo gets re-signed in Calgary.

So what constitutes a "taste"? If you meant >100 games, just say so. No need for vague tastes of cups of coffee.
Also, it's 32% for 100+ games.
