His retirement would give opportunity to other struggling players in the AHL or ECHL to get a shot at a better life. All while getting rid of a notoriously dirty player who has injured others. Win/Win/Win situation if you ask me.
You're all right, it is just a game, and there are thousands of more deserving players that would love for a chance to play it for living.

They're already in the hospital man, they've got enough problems as it is.

They've just discovered that he's patient zero in the upcoming zombie apocalypse so he had to be put out to pasture. That would explain the biting and the ambulance

He can play with a broken rib but he isn't going to last too many shifts in the playoffs. Too much risk to his health from a hit or even a push in front of the net.
I popped a rib last summer and it takes forever to be right. Anything that engages your core is comprimised by the injury.

Glad to hear it wasn't something more serious, although a broken rib is bad enough.

Totally depends on number of ribs, flail segment, and displacement of the bones. Typically a few weeks before you can learn to do regular activities, at least a month before pain is typically diminished. But I'm talking based on the general community - hockey players can certainly get nerve blocks that are very effective for broken ribs. Wouldn't be surprised if they find a way for him to play if it's just an isolated non-displaced fracture.

They're not going to ever let him play with a broken rib, one good hit and he could be looking at something really serious.

If he was in enough pain to warrant an EMS trip, he won't be playing this series at a minimum. All it takes is one Ferkland elbow and he's back in the Ambulance.

"Sven Baertschi will now play in game four. He was recalled from the Utica Comets before Burrows even hit the ice for skate Tuesday morning and he arrives in Calgary just in time to make his NHL playoff debut, against his former team."
Well this should be interesting....

As bad as Ducay's comment was, this one is worse. If the concern is reflecting what "flames fans think", how does removing the post help?

Ferland hit Burrows so hard in game 4 the injury travelled back in time and took him out before he could even play.

Did they use a regular ambulance or do the Canucks have one with a W?

I hope Burrows injury isn't career threatening and that he is back for game 5. That so he can end his career off properly by getting his head knocked off by Ferland and coming to the self realization that he is a little bitch and has no business in a sport played by men.
I can't believe this is Burrows you are all defending. The guy is definition of Canuck scumbaggery.
I sure hope his injury isn't life threatening because you never wish that upon another person, but strictly speaking from a hockey fan's point of view here, the guy has made millions off of just being a deutschebank over the years. I'm sure he's going to be just fine after his playing days come to an end. And I for one am not going to miss him on the ice.
