Honestly I'm glad this happened
Brawls at the end of every game, the animosity spreading to the fans who are beating each other up in both arenas, there's no way I'd go to Rogers Arena in a Flames jersey... I would quite like to continue my life without brain damage and stab wounds

Hey, you wanted rivalries guys. Well, you got them.
As someone else noted though, what the hell is Hartley supposed to do? He puts the fourth line out in a game that is decided, a scuffle turns into a brawl and he gets fined. So he puts the kids out in a game that is decided, and Vancouver gets to deliberately try to injure them with no consequences.
At this point, someone on Calgary is likely to be seriously injured this series. And if it happens, it will be on the league as much as the Canucks.

I'd like to see the Flames roll out Burke on this one.
I've come to expect that the Canucks are a disgrace. I've come to expect that guys like Burrows and Bieksa are complete dirtbags.
The people that should be controlling this are the Canuck's management team and the Captains themselves. But just like the Bertuzzi incident the Canucks continue to have no impulse control whatsoever.
The fact that the NHL had the opportunity to do the right thing to cool this down and failed only guarantees that the results will get worse. Vancouver just got the message that its ok to head shot and take liberties with the Flames better players.
I wouldn't be surprised if tempers flair in game 4, especially if the Flames are ahead on the scoreboard late.
Shame on you Canuck's organization. Shame on you NHL

He got 2 minutes for "Illegal Check To Head"
That penalty also gave the Flames a two man advantage and PPG

Burke needs to come out with a statement here, even if it cost him a fine. Really want to hear his POV right now.

The Flames are a lot more disciplined and have fewer cheap shot artists than the Canucks do, so I wouldn't worry if the refs start calling the game more conservatively. As long as they don't buy into the notion that every powerplay needs to have an even-up call.

I worry that they are going to call Ferland on a clean hit early in the game to "send a message".
League has no idea how to police this type of thing.

Yeah, because that is exactly what I said. Do you require an interpreter? Is charging even in that sentence I wrote. Good grief...
As long as Ferland keeps doing what he is doing Hamhuis will hear the footsteps even more now. Nothing with good hard clean checks. Or did you think "through the boards" was a literal term?

(1) Upon standard review mandated by Rule 46. 22, NHL has determined that VAN's Alex Burrows shall not be suspended for Game 4 vs. Calgary.

(2) Incident deemed "not related to the score, previous incidents in the game or prior games, retaliatory in nature, "message sending."

NHL rescinds 1-game suspension to Burrows but instigator remains on his record. In any case, short term net is same, Burrows plays in G4.

Mark my words, right now the NHL is purely seeing Ferland as the hot point in this whole thing because of the way he's playing. I wouldn't be surprised if Ferland spends a lot of time in the penalty box if he continues to play a physical game. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Engelland gets targeted to.
I just don't have a lot of faith in the NHL right now, especially after I've seen their on ice officials failing to protect players.
Letting Bieksa pound away on Ferland and then jumping in to protect Bieksa once Ferland gains his feet.
The ground and pound on Stajan while the ref sits there and stares at it.
The slash on Gaudreau's hand by Bieksa right in front of the refs.
Burrows jumping Russell and then rescinding the instigator.
The allowed 2-1 on Engelland and the so called ref deputizing Hamhuis
Allowing a blatant targeted head blow on Bennett.
Mark my words, I'm betting the penalty calls early are probably 5-0 against the Flames.
Burke and Treliving should really call a press conference and roll out an 80 inch HD T.V. and play each and every episode from above and then ask why they're being warned. Then toss a check on the table and walk out of the room.
Absolute joke. The Flames are no angels here, but the extent of their barbarian like actions are getting into the crease with Lack. I haven't seen the Flames take a liberty yet in terms of dangerous plays that could injure.

No, but if the officials are given marching orders to tone the series down, then every big hit Ferland or Bollig throws carries a much greater chance of being penalized - even when no rule is broken. That also plays to Vancouver's hands, since they are running scared.

You are right on all counts and if there were a hockey god, Flames will win this in 5.
But as we saw on Saturday, there isn't, so yes, expect the Flames to be in the box a lot in Game 4.

Wait, what? The penalty is rescinded but it remains on his record? Are they just making it up as they go now?

I strongly disagree that Hamhuis aimed for Bennett's head. There is a difference between aiming for someone's head and being reckless with whether or not you hit their head. The first suggests the player is evil and actively trying to end careers. The latter suggests the player is making violent unsafe plays, acknowledging that hockey is a very fast game.
They are both suspendable, but lets not impute intention when we have no idea what is going on in Hamhuis' mind.
Edit: Brendan Shannahan, when we was director of player safety, also didn't seem to know the distinction.

I agree with you, and thanks for taking the time to write that. When I get angry I find I can't get my message across without sounding stupid.
I'm angry with the NHL and how this stuff is being handled. If they want the shenanigans to stop, suspend the guys who deserve to be suspended.

Usually when people say "put him through the boards", they mean "take a run at the guy", which is charging. That's just common usage of that phrase in hockey. Anyway, the point was that if you prioritize revenge for past games, the other guys will be busy winning the current game in the meantime. It's a recipe for disaster.
