A 'Meanwhile in Canada...' moment.

Hamilton police will be sending a mental health professional with the officer on calls - seems like a great way to de-escalate a lot of situations. The people and the police are meant to be on the same side.

I'm going to wait for the grand jury indictment before I assign any guilt.

CPS has been doing this for a while now.

Good for us!

This seems like a much better long term fix than body cameras.

Unfortunately many states are now trying to rush legislation bills that will make it a illegal to record video of Police officers for everyday citizens. Texas is the most vocal right now on the topic.

He has already been charged for murder. A grand jury is used in legal proceedings in whether or not someone should be charged. I think you mean just a a Jury verdict.

This is outrageous for several reasons. As if murder isn't bad enough, but then to coldly throw the taser on him is disgusting.

I also don't appreciate how they keep talking about the cop as having 2 step children and a wife that is 8 months pregnant. It sucks for them, but he doesn't deserve sympathy for it. You rarely if ever read the heartache angles about other murders after they murder people in cold blood.

This is the story of the man who took the video. Tracked down Walter Scott's family at his vigil - they were the first people he showed it to.

The taser was clearly part of the cover up. You put in on the body, get some sloppy ferenics to show he shot him much closer and the cops story of we fought over my taser, he got it away from, I thought he was going to turn around so I shot him.

To me this escalates it to the sociopath level. He was clear headed enough to casually plant evidence on the dead victim. Not caring that he just killed someone. A defense lawyer can probably appeal a lot of cases this officer was involved in.

Which is just ridiculous. Clearly there are plenty of officers abusing their power as it is--take away the right citizens have to film their activity is opening up a whole lot of other problems.

That's what really struck me about this.

He didn't look panicked as he dropped the taser next to the body. He was calm and casual--as if this is something he does all the time. That's kind of horrifying.

How often do these things happen when there's no one around to film it?

More to the point he dropped it right in front of another cop, it is clearly not that big a deal in the department to plant evidence, in fact so inconsequential he didn't even need to talk about it, just did it knowing full well his colleague wouldn't question it.

Isn't that accessory to at the very least fraud? I would like to see that officer charged with something as well.

You'd have to prove that the officer saw the other one throw the taser, and wasn't focused on the dead body at her feet.

You mean the spot where the taser landed?

I think I have said this before but I am fully on board with officers having camera's on them at all times.
