I can't bring myself to watch the video, but apparently after firing the 8 shots he then picks up his taser (dropped nearby from the earlier scuffle) and walks up and places it next to Walter Scott's body. Then his statement claims that Walter Scott grabbed his taser from him, hence he felt threatened. Just... Wow.

Absolutely not.

Even if it were a shooting situation and not in the back he started shooting with the guy 10' away at the most. I don't think he hit him but once or twice towards the end.

but eight shots in the back? ha welcome to hell bitch.

Tennessee vs. Garner is an interesting read if you have absolutely nothing to do, though its relevance is limited here. Rare to find text even hinting at shooting somebody CLEARLY running away and no longer posing a threat.

The only way he can possibly walk is if they say the tape is inadmissible. Even if you wanna say the shooting is justified (and obviously that's insane), planting the evidence is still on the tape so if nothing else that should get a conviction. I would hope we see a plea deal here with the death penalty on the table, and if the cop says no to a deal they better pursue the death penalty. If he straight walks then yeah, the riots will be historic. Police will basically have carte blanche to murder anyone they want if he walks.

Stating the obvious here, but this probably happens way more than we could ever know. There needs to be no more if, ands or buts about putting body cameras on officers. Sucks we can't trust them to do the right, legal thing, but we simply can't and shouldn't take their word as being fact.

You can thank whoever took that video with having the balls to keep recording after watching a cop murder an unarmed civilian. A lot of people would have shut it off at that point and started running, missing the evidence being planted and likely allowing the cop to walk

"Tried to take my taser" - key word tried, failed, ran away, don't shoot him

This is just cold blooded murder, glad to cop is charged, this man was no threat running away

Even though we don't have the complete scuffle on video, i think what we do see is enough to conclude my statement

Good grief. That's one of the dumbest things I've ever read, and I lived through the Tower years here on CP.

Did anyone catch the part about the suspect grabbing the taser and threatening the officer? But the video showing the officer shooing the guy, walking back 40 feet to pick up the taser and then dropping it beside the victim?

It looked to me like the taser had been deployed at the beginning of the video when the guy started to run. The video is very damning to the officer and based on it alone a murder charge is warranted.
The news just said they're releasing the officers dash cam which may show what led up to this incident.

Might be time to buy TASR and/or GPRO. Hopefully this will motivate some more police forces to get body cams. They should not be optional.

I think the most concerning thing is how this sort of thing is such standard procedure now as evidenced by the police report...blah blah...feared for my life...blah blah....suspect got control of my weapon. And all the other cop reports...blah blah...tried to do cpr...blah blah...officer Slager tried life saving procedures. All too common.
