Did not want this story buried in Police brutality thread.

http://www.vox.com/2014/8/11/5988925...riots-st-louis

Quote:
On August 9, Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was killed by a police officer in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, MO. Eyewitnesses to the shooting report that Brown was killed while attempting to surrender, but police say that Brown assaulted the officer before the shooting.

Keypoints

Brown was shot multiple times and killed by a Ferguson police officer in the early afternoon of Saturday, August 9,#outside an apartment complex.

least one shot was fired from the police car. Brown was killed while he was standing about 35 feet away from the car.

Police during riot fired LIVE round ammo as warnings.

Update . Anonymous Group as just started #opFurguson
A lot of people don't like them but without them the Stubbanville rape case would of never been known.

http://rt.com/usa/179532-anonymous-o...uson-missouri/

“To the Ferguson Police Department and any other jurisdictions who are deployed to the protests: we are watching you very closely,” the message continues. “If you abuse, harass - or harm in any way the protesters in Ferguson we will take every web based asset of your departments and governments off line. That is not a threat, it is a promise. If you attack the protesters, we will attack every server and computer you have. We will dox and release the personal information on every single member of the Ferguson Police Department, as well as any other jurisdiction that participates in the abuse. We will seize all your databases and E-Mail spools and dump them on the Internet. This is your only warning.”

Not a bad couple months for the police. Executing a pair of people for no reason and beating the crap out of others.

One CNN video report, flagged by#Colorlines, shows a police officer saying to protesters, "Bring it, you ####ing animals! Bring it!" (at the 00:15 mark):

Apparently there was a whole lot of looting after this news as well....i will never understand how those people who decide to loot/vandalize think it will help the situation in any way.

Ugh.

I agree that this seems like a highly unjustified case of police brutality. But what point is stealing a case of Fanta and a sleeve of Pringles proving?

Well, people who loot in these situations are just taking advantage of the general mayhem and limited policing to steal ####. The people who vandalize are people who want to do crazy #### and now have an opportunity.

I don't know if it's the case here, but neither of the above groups are usually interested in protesting the injustice, more with giving the finger to the cops and being able to get away with stuff they wouldn't normally get away with. There's also an element of "well, everybody else is doing it..."

What really sucks is the rioting will over shadow the actual story at hand.

The sad thing is that you have a small group of idiots who are going to get all of the attention for looting and perpetuating the stereotype, while there are thousands of people who are rightfully angry and scared and sad because it's all too obvious that those in authority aren't actually out to "serve and protect" them.

I mean, let's be honest--there are sports fans who riot when their teams win or lose games. There is always a group of idiots among any kind of a mob of people, and this mob has a whole lot of anger fueling it.

Really interesting stats on traffic stops/arrests/etc from MO's website. There is a massive discrepancy in black arrests vs. arrests of white (or really any other minority) arrests.

http://ago.mo.gov/VehicleStops/Reports.php?lea=161

But rather than focusing on the justifiable outrage of the peaceful protesters, the focus will be on the destruction caused by these few idiots.

Ha? What makes you think the people doing the looting think they are helping the situation? Bizarre you would think that.

You don't think it is more likely the people doing the looting are doing it for materialistic reasons?

Should be noted there will be no dash cam footage released. The Ferguson Police force does not use them. Most likely so they can do the traffic stops the way they do.

Or because they have 54 sworn members and lack the funds to purchase them. The cps has over 2000 members and have only had dash cams installed in the majority of vehicles for a year or less.

Further, a lot of small services in the US are poorly trained, poorly equipped, poorly paid. This is the unfortunate result all too often.

More likely because they don't have the budget to retrofit the whole fleet. Don't quote me on the numbers but the CPS fleet still isn't done and they've been going at it for 5+ years, at a cost of more than $2 million.

Twitter has a whole lot of issues, but it can be pretty incredible on nights like this. High tension in Ferguson again, some media members are in the area and live-tweeting, despite police insisting that the media leave the area.

A few interesting accounts to keep an eye on:

My heart goes out to this kids mother and father. Saw them on CCN so tragic their whole world just got unjustly and abruptly turned upside down. So un-necessary of a death.

well that's a scary tweet;
https://twitter.com/BrittanyNoble/st...35325440614400

terrible situation. hopefully there will be a push to spend less on weaponry, and more on dash cams and personal cameras for police. they clearly have some money;

What are you saying here? That the entire police force, or the leadership at least, actively decides not to use dash cams so that they can go around shooting black kids? Is that what you're saying? If not, please walk me through your post really slowly, because it sure sounds like that's what you're saying.

No that would be stupid to say to shoot black kids. Too hide how they conduct themselves maybe. Its all speculation tho. Its just odd how many more black people over. You can afford all that military style hardware but no dash cams. Seriously Its weird that not one of their cars has them.

Then asking media to leave so they can control crowds.

Driver in car passing protesters at #Ferguson Police HQ "Go home ####ing ******s" mixed race crowd upset but peaceful, occasional chants

Who ever that was is an idiot. Enrage a crowd that is protesting what they believe is a racial issue.
