To me it seems a bigger fault in character to intentionally annoy somebody for giving a damn about something than it is to simply give a damn about something.

As Derek Sutton said, if you start trolling a bunch of rich guys, you can expect spit on your door handles and windshield and to me, people responding to trolls is gut-bustingly funny. It's almost as if you should find a hobby instead of trolling the hobby of someone else.

I'll admit, it could be a cultural thing that I don't entirely understand. I've lived here a long time, but there are certainly things that just don't make sense when brought up by random people. If it was a culture wide thing, it's be easier. In North America, certain subsets of the population seem to have weird rules and possessions like cars are cherished in an entirely different way than I've ever been able to understand. Some people are obsessed with space, and having their own, and having more than they need.

Every culture has their weird rules, but I think you've got to be pretty forgiving with them, especially in a large multicultural city like Calgary.

I think certain things have this implied meaning to them for some people, when to a lot of people, it would mean nothing at all.

I've seen someone parked next to my car and not thought about them at all, even for a moment, I just get in my car and drive away. It's the same when I'm parking, I don't look at a car and specifically park beside it, I just park wherever I want to park, regardless of other vehicles. The one occasion I can recall seeking out a nicer car than mine to park beside is in more questionable areas, that way if someone is going to break in a vehicle or steal it, mine looks less appealing

I just don't think it's fair to label everyone that parks beside you as rude, unskilled, or some of the other things people have called each other here. I like photon and btimbits reaction, because hey, maybe it's kind of weird, but that's all. It certainly shouldn't upset you. I deeply respect the property of others, do my best to cause no damage at any time, but because I might park beside you in an empty lot, I'm guilty of disrespect and harassment?

Nah not really. This isn't about car guys thinking the world revolves around them, it's about basic respect for others property.

It was said before but if a parking lot is full its a different story. Nobody's entitled to empty spaces around them. But if its empty why not just respect someones wish for extra space when they park far away?

The only reason someone would actually go out of their way to hurt or threaten someones property is jealousy. Or bitterness. Or just a general inferiority complex.

That was never our argument and you know it.

As it turns out, to get into a car, you need to open the door. And when you open a car door, there is a probability that the car door will strike the vehicle next to you. This creates a mark on the vehicle's door which is unsightly.

Fortunately, the majority of parking lots that I frequent have plenty of extra space that allow me to park well away from other vehicles to avoid said unsightly marks.

I'm not sure why you're playing dumb and acting like we think the mere presence of another vehicle next to ours ruins it but I'm from Lethbridge which might just be the windiest city in this damn country and even if you are being careful, your door is flying not only out of your hand and hitting the car next to you, but it's flying to Medicine Hat.

I don't think parking next to someone is a lack of basic respect of their property. I think unneccessarily (i.e. a sufficiently empty lot where dozens of spaces are available closer to the door) parking next to someone is a lack of common courtesy.

You're misunderstanding me completely. I don't use another car to align my parking. In my terrible MSPaint example, I said I'd park in that spot because it's the closest to the lot entrance and I could drive straight into the stall. In photon's photo example, I would not park next to the red arrow; I'd park in the first available spot I saw.
