Just curious - in those blatant dives / phantom injuries in soccer that we have the privilege of reviewing in slow motion, do those get shown in the soccer stadiums? I would hope the embarrassment of seeing oneself on a big screen would curb some of that crap.

Every illegitimate attempt at drawing a foul could be compiled into a little 'soccer bloopers" show that gets played at half-time.

That's a fake account. The real account is @boringmonahan.

Absolutely maddening. Can't wait until this pansy fest is over and I don't have to hear about soccer for another 4 years.
I really respect soccer. But every time I try and get into it, something like you described happens. I just can't do it.

Soccer is fun to play, but maddening to watch.

The World Cup is always extra bad for it too. There's good reasons for some of the flopping, but FIFA really needs to clamp down if they every want it to gain popularity in North America.

I feel bad for the guys who get their calves stepped on, on chests kneed, or knees kicked, and get accused of diving, but the culture needs changing.

What's worse is how many "fans" there are right now who probably couldn't even tell you what an offside is, but the world cup comes around and it's a big deal and everyone wants to watch soccer.

I hate soccer, too.

Back on driving related gear grinders, how about the dozen moronic tourists parked in the breakdown right after a tight curve on Hwy 93 in Jasper today, half of which had their ass-ends taking up half the single northbound lane, taking pictures of a goddamn black bear 20 ft from the road edge.

I've never wanted to see someone get mauled more in my life.

Would you have stopped and blocked part of the lane to watch/take pictures of the mauling?

On the highway to Radium there's a dangerous (large drops off the edge of the road) section that has huge signs saying "do not stop to observe wildlife" and there's a guy with his truck parked halfway on the road standing taking pictures of bears while people were swerving to dodge his truck and honking. If anyone needed to be mauled it was that guy (or child molesters, close call)

Yup. Drove it back last night around 1 am and some idiot is stopped on the side of the road taking pictures of a bear. We could barely see the bear too but could see the flash going off on his camera. Idiot.

I cannot agree with you more. I drive this road to work every 2 weeks and the amount of idiots who either park half way on the road or slam on the brakes to take pictures is ridiculous! I've had two people in the last month who have *Slammed!* on the brakes to pull over. That highway is full of ######s. Keep a huge distance.

It boggles my mind that many people in the city will forgo seeing the best athletes in the world compete in the World Cup, but instead go see a bunch of 20 year olds having a hockey practice...

No.

That is entirely subjective, as a soccer player could be a complete failure as a hockey player, and vice versa. And also, you misspelled floppers.

It boggles my mind that people watch soccer, or worse yet that people put their kids in soccer, it is child abuse.

Awful sport, awful culture.

Watch a couple of World Cup games and now you know enough to formulate an opinion like this? Soccer is an excellent team sport and is excellent for kids. I can agree that embellishment is an issue at the pro level but to base the entire culture of the sport on that is pretty lame.

Not to mention soccer has the highest participation rate in the country. Referring to it as child abuse is pretty laughable, even if you're being sarcastic.
