I apologize for not posting any updates today, my phone died because my son was playing videogames on it.
Regardless, I'll echo what's already been said about Gaudreau, he is far and away the best prospect this organization has, might be the best they've ever had. Every time he touches the puck, something happens. If the defenceman doesn't play him perfectly, he makes something magical happen almost every single time he comes in on the rush.
His hands in tight are ridiculous and his speed is blazing. I'm glad some videos were posted of him today, he really is something else.
Others that impressed me... Sieloff, he's fast, loves to shoot and looks like a full-grown man playing against kids.
Kulak, oh man, this guy can play. I thought he was a forward at first, because of the great hands he was showing in front of the net and some of the moves he was making breaking down the wing. He was the best offensive defenceman on the ice today.
Agostino always moves like he's got a purpose, never a wasted stride, he hauls ass and works his tail off to get where the coaches want him to be. I love this guy.
Klimchuk looked terrific as well. He's faster than I thought he'd be and he's got a heavy shot. He was the highlight of the A squad, by a large margin.
Bennett was off today, many plays died on his stick when there was no one around him. However, he also had flashes where you could see what kind of player he really is. I think he may have just been uber nervous, didn't appear to be having fun out there, was being hard on himself every time he missed the net or messed up on a rush. Reminded me a lot of Monahan's first day last year.
Kanzig. Words really cannot describe how impressive this guy is when he's on the ice. My eyes are drawn to him every time he's near the puck, which is often. He just seems like he could toss anyone aside in the blink of an eye, there's no one even remotely equipped to handle him physically. Hunter Smith may be the same height, but Kanzig is solid like a truck, Smith looks like a really tall teenager that still has some growing to do. Kanzig is also deceptively fast. Once he gets going, it continues to amaze me how fast he can skate, especially for a man of his size.
Wolf is solid as well, but I didn't see much from him that indicated to me he's going to push for a spot on the Flames roster. Just didn't really get a chance to shine, and he didn't appear skilled enough to make something out of nothing like a Gaudreau is.
Macdonald is lanky. Very much a teenager, he's a long way from making the NHL, but he played very solid.
Bryce van Brabant was playing with my kids, high fiving them and continued to come back to them during their cardio drills to interact with them. Always a big smile on his face, you can tell he's loving every minute of this. Tremendous attitude, absolutely gained a few new fans today.

Loved the bit about Brabant. With everyone chasing their dreams it's great when someone can remember to foster new dreams in the kids.

Agreed. They were all just watching intently because all of group A was doing a series of exercises on a running track after their icetime was finished. Every other player basically ignored us, we were just random fans watching them work out.
But he saw my kids and instantly took a liking to them. They're 2, 5 and 7, and you would have thought he knew them since they were babies. High fives, fist bumps, lots of playful interaction, my kids, especially my girls, loved it.
Was really awesome to see and I want Flames management to know that I appreciated it, that kind of stuff goes a long way to growing a fanbase.

Most of these players there today are all highly skilled to begin with. The guy I was probably impressed with the most was Hunter Smith, he stood out because of his size and presence as well. I'll be interested in seeing him in training camp against regular NHLers.
Bill Arnold looked good as well, same with Agostino, Van Brabant and Gaudreau. His mom was there as well and I said hi to her too.
Good to see Sam Bennett finally, he's smaller but you can tell he's skilled, more than likely be back in Jr. this season.
Mason McDonald looked good as well. David Wolf is a big guy and he seems strong to, seemed to skate okay.
I didn't think Kanzig looked to strong in his legs, he looks like he has a tiny waist and bit of an odd skating style, maybe he just needs to get bigger and develop more.
Was it Seiloff in the blue jersey, he seemed winded and was leaning over a lot.
Also a little surprised at Austin Carrol, didn't seem out of place at all being he's from the AJHL. Looked like he has some good skill to me, good skater too.
I would recommend going out there if you can seeing some of the future stars for the Flames.

Austin Carrol is From the Whl. He plays for the Victoria Royals. I have his Jersey. Led the team ingoals and penalty minutes.

I would love to see Smith on Johnnys offwing. What a dynamic duo, already some chemistry.

I made it to the afternoon session, wearing my Johnny hockey shirt. Sat in front of Craig Conroy and he commented on my nice shirt. As we watched Gaudreau's magic he would say Johnny hockey. I turned to him and said how are we to temper expectations when even you 're calling him Johnny hockey. He laughed. Sieloff looked solid and excellent positionally but tired, Harrison and Hickey are fluid skaters.

Posted this on another thread but both Hunter Smith and Brendan Hickey feature prominently in the top ten in the scoring combine.

Brendan Hickey with 8 top tens in the 20 performance tests and Smith is on there a few times too. He Dallaire the tallest

Was in Calgary, heading back to Kimberley, so only had a chance to watch pm session before hitting the road. Wish I could have stayed all week.

There are some videos up on the flames website, not in the video section but on the front page. Switch over to the "Dev camp day 2" tab and they're available there. Johnny, Treliving, Arnold, Culkin, and Austin Carrol.

Per Treliving:
Jankowski and Gilles: Hip
Mattsson: Foot
All minor and he Treliving mentioned that he wants Flames doctors to get a look at them.
Porier: Shoulder (we knew this) and progressing well. Again, a check in with team doctors.

The kid will be a top 4 NHL quality defensemen. I don't think people know exactly what we have with him.

Wasn't someone saying that they might consider moving Sieloff to forward? Burke maybe? Good player but not ideal size for the type of game he wants to play or something like that.
