I just moved from section 208. We had the 2nd and 3rd seats in from the aisle. We definitely had this problem as well, especially when I bought the aisle seat on ticketmaster to bring a friend. The view from the 3rd seat in was way better than the aisle seat.
It was funny watching people huff and puff as they made their way up to the 3rd level.

Sweet thanks for the feedback. I'm in the middle of the section too, 12-15.

Now that we are 6 seats from the aisle it isn't a problem; not even a bit. That was a tough choice, the aisle seats were great for bathroom breaks and grabbing a beer during TV timeouts, but being able to see all of the game is worth it. Plus now that we are older, nobody smokes, we drink less beer, and as a result need fewer trips to the washroom.

If anyone is interested, they have 2/3 seats in Row 3 of PL8 available. I just joined the hothouse last year, and it's crazy to think that a pair (or 3) would become available in rows 1-3 this year (although the new "food" deal for rows 4 and up likely has something to do with it).

What "food" deal?
I highly doubt people are moving up from rows 1-3, regardless of incentives. Those first 3 rows are some of the most coveted seats in the building due to their price and view. However, some do come available every year (that's how I got mine last year).
The reality is that after enough years of losing hockey, combined with hostility towards patrons in the form of long line ups where everyone gets treated like a thug (I visited 7 NHL rinks last year and I can state with authority that those metal detectors are not an NHL standard at all), some people just aren't interested in season tickets. It opens it up for the rest of us who are, of course - but the days where the Flames could sell out the building twice over each night are long past.

Apparently for every game you'll get:
- hamburger or hot dog
- popcorn
- 24 oz pop
- a dessert treat (i.e. malt)

I think it means that fewer people are moving from 4+ down to rows 1-3 due to the food deal. There are still some decent seats in rows 4-7 of the PL (in terms of value for the money spent.), and if this now means that you can take your kid to the game for less than $50 all in; that might be more important to some people.

Wow, they're having even more trouble filling those seats than I thought. That's Southern US worthy in terms of giveaways. I'm pretty sure we won't return to the days of tarping off the nosebleeds, but still. Scary.
It's weird though, because as far as I can tell, they're still reporting sellouts every single night. Even though I can see the end PL sections half-empty during the average game. Maybe this is to stave off the eventual, until the team gets back on the books.

At worst I've been wanded in rinks that are in some of the more dangerous cities in America (hell even DC didn't do this). And I personally know 3 season ticket holders who gave up their seats this year with that being the last straw. Response from the Flames - "it's what happens in every NHL rink". Which is a complete lie.
But it's all off-topic anyway; just saying that there's a few reasons there are more options this year than ever. And it ain't because Calgary's economy is suddenly in the dumps.

I think it has more to with how terrible upper press level seating is. And the fact you don't necessarily need season tickets to pick and choose which game you want to see for dirt cheap. This is how I treat stamps games. If I'm just sitting in the cheapest seats then they're always a way to get them for 20 bucks. But if I wanted to sit in better seats, they are usually not available anywhere but kijiji.

Yeah but it's not like the seats have changed since 3-5 years ago. They've always been terrible.
I'm curious to see what kind of promotions they do for the walk-up sales and such. If you're getting $20 in food with every ticket, the PL is gonna be PACKED this year. Thank god they're not giving away free beer.

Fortunately the belief of your animated GIF does not change reality. Go ask Ken King, the complaint letters are in his filing cabinet somewhere - probably the circular file based on the responses received. I proofread 2 of them personally.
I'm not sure why a person (or animated GIF, as the case may be) would disbelieve that season tickets get cancelled. I can't be the only one who's noticed more availability in the past few years. It's what got me into my row 1s.

Oh, I don't think there's any doubt that season tickets get cancelled and that there's been more availability the last few years. Hell I was only on the waiting list for 2 years before getting offered seats and I was able to move down 8 rows in my section this year.
I'm just questioning your claims that walking through a metal detector is a significant factor in season tickets getting cancelled. Plus I'm silly and I like making myself chuckle with gifs.

Only reason a person legitimately drops their tickets because of the detectors is because they routinely brought outside booze in. Half the time when you walked through the detectors and it went off they would wave you through anyways.

The only people concerned about walking through a metal detector are those with something to hide. If you've got nothing to hide, then it shouldn't be a problem to walk through.
Without them it was still one person at a time to walk through after getting your ticket scanned, the detectors really didn't slow down anything.

That isn't entirely true. I found myself standing in line to pass through the detectors on many occasions. A couple of times it was a few good minutes and it seemed the problem was with bag searches. What they need to do in order to keep things moving along is pull those with bags aside in order to do the bag search rather than holding the whole line up while they do bag searches, or have express lines for those patrons without bags.

I moved from PL15, Row 7 to whites in Section 211, Row 20. Quite a bit more money but this was the first year I was allowed to relocate out of the Press Level according the the original season ticket offer I received (had to stay 3 seasons in PL). Curious to see how much of an improvement these seats will be.
