I had to come here right away when a facebook post popped up about finding the jet in the ocean floating around with all passengers alive. Clicked it and it was one of those sign up first/we will post BS to get your contact info pages.

For our aviation experts, are they both located in the cockpit?

Today has been extremely slow as far as "news" goes, but that's probably a good thing seeing as how we aren't being fed information that's being retracted within hours and then reinstated again in a few hours.

With the search now presumably shifted to the Indian Ocean, I feel like we're in for a quiet few days/weeks/months with even less updates.

I hope they have a certain area that they're focusing on, as the Indian Ocean is massive with an average depth of almost 12,000 ft (and going as deep as 26,000ft)

I read, but didn't confirm, that the focus would be shifted to near Burma area in the Bay of Bengal. That alone is approx 7 times the size of the Gulf of Thailand (or twice as big as Ontario). The Bay of Bengal has an average depth of 8,500ft with a max of 15,400. Either way, it's a huge area to search.

I hope I'm wrong, for the families sake, but think we could be in for a long search... (unless the US knows something they aren't yet sharing with the world because they don't want to show the rest of the world their surveillance cards.)

Any idea on the nationality of the pilot and crew?

As suggested earlier - could there be a reason this plane was hijacked and landed somewhere else?

Yes, you can shut them down from the cockpit. Can quite easily turn off the radios and transponder.

I am curious what they mean by communication systems however.

New pic of something in the Indian Ocean.

Fuselage split in two, or a tanker?
Or absolutely nothing?

If that is a plane fuselage, then it didn't go down very hard.

I am the last person to have any knowledge within aviation however I am guessing that wings would float around much longer than the fuselage?
I have no clue how big the clouds are however as an aerial view, the clouds would be much larger than what is below it and whatever that is appears way to big. Photoshop is my guess, unfortunately there are a ton of people trying to make money off this situation.

They gently fell out of the sky over a 3 minute period with no thoughts as to their danger. That's why there wasn't any radio communication.

I read an article about the capabilities of the 777-200, and there's backup power on the aircraft, so even if power was cut somehow, communications would still have been able to get out. Everything I read points to how bizarre it is that contact was lost all of the sudden. Even if the plane had some sort of electronic mishap, or the engines cut out, or anything, from 35,000 feet up, there'd be plenty of time to communicate with someone, according to the people that know what they're talking about.

Here it is. Interesting stuff:
http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/07/travel/malaysia-airliner-analysis/
The comparisons of that Buenos Aries to Paris ill fated flight are still being mentioned on various news programs. It took five days for the first sighting of wreckage. Storms were occurring where the plane crashed. The weather was much more calm for the Malaysian incident. The future Mayday episode for this will be complex.

I really feel for all the passengers and crew's families. It has to be unbearable to what they are all going through.

The way this has been handled by Malaysia and the media has been super frustrating as someone who takes interest in accidents/investigations. It's been a circus. I can't imagine what the families are going through. Must be a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows, hope and despair.

I'm at the point where I wish they would all STFU until they find some actual wreckage.

WSJ saying MH370 was pinged for 5 hours now.

Quote:
Communication satellites received intermittent data "pings" from a missing Malaysia Airlines 3786.KU -4.08% jet, giving the plane's location, speed and altitude for at least five hours after it disappeared from civilian radar screens, people briefed on the investigation said Thursday.

The final satellite ping was sent from over water, at what one of these people called a "normal" cruising altitude. The people declined to say where specifically the transmission originated, adding that it was unclear why the transmissions stopped. One possibility one person cited was that the system sending them had been disabled by someone on board.

U.S. aviation investigators said they were analyzing the satellite transmissions to determine whether they can glean information about the plane's location or status. The transmissions were sent via onboard technology designed to send routine maintenance and system-monitoring data back to the ground via satellite links, according to people familiar with the matter.

Among the possible scenarios investigators said they are now considering is whether the jet may have landed at any point during the five-hour period under scrutiny, or whether it ultimately crashed.
