I don't see how. We were supposed to contend with Sutter. This roster was supposed to finish near the bottom. We are meeting expectations and have exceeded them early this season.

Not convinced Hartley is a lame duck coach and even if he was I'm not sure that affects things as much as you think it does.

The trade deadline on the other hand could be affecting certain players like Stajan, Cammalleri and Stempniak, especially after the Feaster hiring.

What do you mean by not expecting them to be this bad for long? Certainly at least the rest of the year and probably next year as well we will be pretty bad. We're certainly not going to get better dumping UFA's I don't think.

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised. Our most skilled forwards are under 6'0 and are debateable 1st liners. One of our best defensemen just got injured. Our goalies haven't played much North American hockey in the last few years.

The NHL is overall much better and deeper than in the young guns era. Our team might be better than that team but our opposition in the Western conference is so much tougher than back then.
