Who knows what Roy could do if given a chance and put in the right situation. Would probably be tough to find a spot for him if Gillies turns pro, but if not, he'd be nice to have in Abby.

Would make sense for Burke to deal MacDonald by the trade deadline. Roy could get called up then.
Of course injuries can happen at any time and having any one of the 4 goalies ahead of him getting injured would mean Roy would move up a level.

That's great about Janko and all. But as a first rounder in sophomore year in a college league he should be able to produce at a better click. Especially with the assets about him that have been so hyped.
I've been impressed by the highlights I've seen, but there should be more of them. Don't know where the consistency offensively is for him, but he should be starting to figure out this college hockey by now.
However, he's still technically a baby prospect-wise (month difference from Monahan), so I'll give him a pass for now. But if he doesn't start to pick it up, his previous 'ceiling' prediction may require an adjustment.
Doesn't mean he won't ever see the big league, but maybe not as the kind of player we'd hoped for.

Eff that noise.
Gillies is the future. Why promote Roy over our top goalie prospect? Maybe for a couple months to start the season. But that, tops. Gillies should start facing legitimate opposition asap to get a better read on him. I'm not entirely familiar with the ECHL level of play, but it really can't be much of an improvement on what Gillies has been facing, and destroying, for two seasons.
Got to challenge your top prospect.

well who knows. I am aware that I am repeating myself and it may seem I'm desperate to hold on to a single player, but Alex Killorn of the Lightning really confirms that patience sometimes pays off. When he was drafted in 2007, he was listed at about 5'10" and 160 or something ... he played another year of HS hockey and then the full 4 years at college, and now he's listed at 6'2" and 205 and is a .5 PPG player in the NHL. It happens. Sometimes, you simply can't judge a player after 1 1/2 years of development. Sometimes it takes longer, and given his history prior to the draft, Jankowski should be the poster boy for that. In fact, if Janko was a 3rd round pick like Killorn was, no one would bat an eye. But because Feaster and Weisbrod reached a bit in the draft (not as much as some people think though ... I doubt he'd have made it to the 2nd round) and told the world that they think he'll be the best player of the draft, everybody is looking extra closely and the fact that he hasn't dominated at the college level seems to worry some fans. I say give it at least another year before you panic ... he simply needs time.

not the greatest night. Kulak was the only WHL prospect in action tonight, and he had an assist in a 4-3 win over Kamloops. Meanwhile, Poirier and Culkin both were scoreless and suffered losses in the QMJHL. Culkin was a -1 and missed his SO attempt as the Remparts lost 3-2 in the shootout vs the Rimouski Oceanic, while Poirier was a devastating -3 in a 6-4 loss to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. At least he had another fight
Mark Jankowski had an assist in a 3-2 win at Dartmouth. John Gilmour was scoreless.

It would be hard to imagine that one team's schedule could be that dramatically different than another team's, in order to inflate stats to the point where they weren't comparable. I know that some divisions are weaker, but not that much.
Carey deserves the attention that he has been getting. But I think it is also important to keep in mind that he is 23 - a full 3 years older than Gaudreau and the same age as Colborne and Brodie.
It is not unlike a 20 year old tearing up the CHL - it's still impressive, but it can't be ignored that everyone else is younger than them.

Hasn't Carey produced well over 50% of his points on the PP, compared to Gaudreau who has some ungodly amoint of ES points in comparison?
Carey strikes me as a Schremp type guy, but maybe I'm wrong.

Kulak had 3 assists last night.
He now has 40 points in 40 games. (13 goals, 27 assists)

I think Kulak is in on something like 30% percent of his team's goals (I'll have to look up the actual numbers).
Also - kind of off topic but since this is my favourite thread and I can't go to the game tonight - I am offering my tickets (section 201 row 9) for free to any of the big contributors to this thread that PM's me. I can email or you can pick up hard copy (I live close to the Dome). They are already posted in the ticket exchange forum.
Thanks!

Sorry PMM. If you're ever in town - let me know. I've been having a tough time going to the games this year and might have them available for at least a very good CP discount .

So, prospects who's rights are still owned by the Flames that need to be signed THIS year are:
NCAA (By August 15th correct?)
F - Kenneth Agostino
C - Bill Arnold
CHL (Sometime in June? correct?)
D - Brett Kulak
D - Ryan Culkin
F - Coda Gordon
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other un-signed Flames prospects:
NCAA
F - Johnny Gaudreau (August 2015)
C - Mark Jankowski (August 2016)
G - Jon Gillies (August 2016)
C - Matt Deblouw (August 2016)
F - Tim Harrison (August 2017)
D - John Gilmour (August 2017)
Europe
D - Rushan Rafikov (June or August 2017 ???)
CHL
D - Eric Roy (June 2015)
That look right CBA gurus?

The CHL guys need to be signed by June 1, I believe, or they'll re-enter the draft.
Gilmour was drafted after his freshman year, so as long as he plays all four years of college, his signing deadline will be August 15, 2016. If for some reason, he leaves college before the start of his senior year but doesn't sign with the Flames, they will hold his rights until June 1, 2017.
I believe that if Rafikov continues to play in Russia, the clock never starts ticking on his four-year signing deadline because there is no transfer agreement in place with the KHL (that's why Ramo is still considered a 4th year pro despite playing his first NHL game seven seasons ago).

yeah I believe that's correct ... the KHL players are always different in that regard. For example, Washington still holds Kuznetsovs rights although he was drafted 3 and a half years ago already (and at that time, it was still a 2 year deadline for European guys).

What magic? The Flames have all the cards here. It isn't magic when its basically a foregone conclusion.

Certainly not a foregone conclusion, but I am really hoping Burke gets it done this year.
