Hartley could be letting Berra play tonight to redeem himself a bit. I'm guessing he's on a short leash, though. I don't think they've given up on Ramo at all, I think we'll see the two flip-flop on playing time all year.

Man... a lot to cover in this thread.
Roger Millions is way too dramatic on twitter and runs to tweet something way too quickly. He complains about soap opera but it's one he's effectively started. I like Roger, but he's prone to not vetting things before he reports it. Done it one too many times.
As for Sven and his play.. I thought he had a very strong game vs the Oilers. Not just a strong game for him but a strong game as an NHL player. He was stronger on the boards, hitting guys on the forecheck and was first back on the defensive side of the game many times. Hartley actually gave him and Monahan top powerplay time, almost 3 minutes each. The comment was a bit out of line, innocent but certainly cutting, but I think Sven has hopefully turned a corner.
Becoming an NHL player is never a straight upwards line, going to be many ups and many downs.

So if everybody knows he isn't Rocket Richard (right now) then how is it belittling to the player? Hartley didn't actually say he will never be anything remotely close to Richard, that is a misquote by you.

I don't see how your reaction can be classified as anything but an overreaction. Saying a rookie isn't a Hall of Famer isn't an insult. It isn't a subtle potshot. It isn't belittling. It's reality. It's the truth. It's fact.
In my opinion of course.

Jesus. You can't really be that literal in everything? It was obviously an unnecessary remark, a borderline shot.

Very Stephen Hawking'ish of you Agreed though, shortest distance between two points is not a straight line. Just ask the Oilers

Okay that's all true but sometimes saying the outright truth. I think this is one of those cases. Just seems like a needless comment, especially when it will obviously get back to the player.

When you dont get a start after losing to the pitiful Oilers, and the other goalie is on a 5 game losing streak with a GAA higher than yours, you have been given up on.

Why shouldn't we be literal?
I don't see this comment as significantly more unnecessary as any comments the coach is prompted to make by the media. I don't see the comment as a borderline shot either. It was not a shot at Sven. It was a shot at the media (and I guess some posters here) who were reacting to Sven's benchings as if he was a hall of famer and not a rookie who's struggled at times.
Harmless quote IMO. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree since some of you seem to want to spin drama out of nothing. I will maintain that you and others are overreacting to a big extent. I doubt Sven gets bent out of shape at all by the comment which mean the comment somehow offends fans worse than the player? To me that is silly.

21 I think?
Played his first pro season split between the ECHL/AHL then played mostly in the AHL and the NHL towards the end of the season. Probably a good timeline for Gillies, little longer maybe.

There is zero reason to even approach rushing Gillies. After this year, let him hit the AHL, if he dominates there, lets start having this conversation.
Goalie really shouldn't be a concern at this point. No one seriously expects Ramo and Berra were the answers, so lets just be patient.

And do you guys seriously think this will somehow affect Sven? Seriously?
I don't think it will affect him in the slightest. Some people here are much more offended by the quote than Baertschi himself will be. Which highlights that it is an overreaction.
This board is getting ridiculous.

By pointing out the obvious. There was no need for it.

C'mon FDW..........of course it wasn't a misquote. It was my own comment. Pretty obvious I wasn't quoting anyone.

It's also needless, which is my original beef. If Monahan gets scratched next game and the media is asking Hartley about it will he make sure to let us all know that Monahan is no Gretzky?

I don't really understand what you're getting at here. The quote is pretty cut and dried IMO. You guys are making something out of it that it isn't.
If you don't explain why we shouldn't be literal in this case then I don't understand what your point is.

One would think, but judging by how people jumped on Hartley because of a false tweet, that doesn't seem to always be the case. Think about that for a second, people went for Hartleys throat because of a motherf***ing tweet 20 games in on a rebuild.

Yeah, because Hartley's been a tactical genius up to this point. He was a master of managing a roster, but then that tweet came and now everyone has changed their mind.
Hartley is entering the Tyson zone of coaching decisions.
