He's benched Sven a few games after playing well and then makes a public comment about him that can be taken the wrong way...just seems like a Jab

If he would have said something like: "We think Sven is a good player but some of you talk about him like he's Rocket Richard..." it would have come off a lot better.
While I don't disagree with what you are saying here, only Hartley knows how Sven handles these things - and the only two people that matter in the grand scheme of this ordeal, is Bob and Sven. How it is interpreted by the media and us fans - who gives a damn.

Holy crap…if that's what everyone is upset about they need to up their valium prescription.

The other comment is simply commenting on the size of the other team and presumably how the Flames will need to battle despite being the smaller team.

Guys, seriously, relaaaaaaxxx.
Agreed. Nothing really that inflammatory there. And yet we have some usually level headed posters overreacting massively to it.

Lol do you ever disagree with anything the Flames do? Hard to take anything you say seriously when you are such a Flames fan boy who never sees them do wrong.

I have no control over the coach or GM or whatever. We really don't know what is going on so all we can do is take it at face value.

The only gripes I have with Hartley is the treatment of Backlund and Baertschi. The Jackman and Mcgratton stuff is just a product of that.

But even then we don't know what the hell is going on in the room so who the heck knows what to think.

What I hope is going on is the organizations' demand for accountability. Pretty much the opposite of what is going on in Edmonton. Of the young guys, Colborne and Monahan have earned heaps of praise for being easy to coach and doing whatever it takes, for those guys, in some cases the results aren't there but they are forming a base.

The praise for Sven and Backlund has been few and far between, so maybe they aren't doing what they are asked to do, maybe their preparation needs some work. Maybe they are just asking these guys to be accountable and learn to become good pros.

This is a rebuild, so maybe they don't give two hoots about results, maybe they don't place too much emphasis on mistakes, but if they can't establish a base of professionalism and preparation and hard work, then 3-5 years down the road the rebuild will be in need of a rebuild. These are talented guys, that stuff will come, but if they don't do it the right way to start with, we will be the Edmonton Oilers.

I truly hope 5 years down the road when Sven, Backlund, Colborne and Monahan are integral parts to a damn good hockey team we look back at the hyperbole of #freesven and the like as the start of something special.

Is this a dream or just fantasy?

Get him the eff out of Calgary then. Can't believe we went from one idiot coach to another. Ken King should be fired for letting Darryl go.

I think the good news skipped over because of The Sven Situation is that Colborne is on the 4th line. About time imo.

IMO Millions should get his facts straight before "reporting", if we can even call it that. As others have pointed out he's been overly dramatic about how they are handling Sven and this has helped whip some of you into a frenzy.

Much ado about nothing it would seem. Funny to see how some respond to some pretty harmless quotes by Bob. People reading stuff into the quotes that just aren't there.

Default GTD - Flames at Jets 6:00 - SNETW

According to the starting line up, Sven is on it. On the 2nd line. No more Jackman.

Just looked at 1:15.

So is he or isn't he playing?

In your opinion, of course. Just depends how each person sees it. I saw a little jab that was completely unnecessary. Of course Sven isn't, nor ever will be, Rocket Richard. We all know that. It was a pointless comment. I guess I just expect better from the head coach of the team. He should be better than that.

I like the camaraderie of the team this year. They seem looser than teams in the last few years. Game day quote from Stempniak.

"I think Big Ern (Brian McGrattan) is little worried he's only got one more major than me this year. He's feeling threatened." - Stempniak on his pugilism in recent games

I get what you mean and think you are right. I don't think the backlund and baertchi situations are similar though.

Backlund has been praised for his defensive game and attitude, but his ice time varies with his offence (in general and compared to other centres on the team). Face off match ups may play a role too, not sure.

Hartley should get heat just for referencing Montreal Canadiens.

Why couldn't he just say, " some of you guys think he is Hakan Loob" or "some of you guys think he is Lanny Mcdonald"

Know your crowd Bob! know your crowd.

The jab was at the media - I am pretty sure Sven knows he is not the legend Rocket Richard......

Yes. I know it was directed at the media. Everybody on the planet, including Sven, knows he will never be anything remotely close to Rocket Richard.

Good to see Stumpy making light of things, instead of pouting or feeling hurt that nobody came to his defense. This guy is a pro.

off topic kind of...If we wanted to bring Gilles (sp) in to play goal this year; would it be allowed. Or is their an issue due to him playing in the NCAA?

I agree - but this is a classic case where the Refs failed to send a message to the players. There is no doubt an instigator call should have been made. Instead they have left it up to the players to police the situation. Really a bogus situation - if they want to reduce fighting start enforcing the rules that are already there.

Would like to see Ramo get a start soon. They gave up on him way too soon IMO.

Jon Gillies is 19, even if we could (we can't) it would be insanity to call him up to play on a team as bad as the Flames right now.

As to why he can't, the Flames can't touch him until his season in the NCAA is over.
