why, because Moyes played his best XI (except for Smalling) in his first ever CL game? Giggs also didn't play against Palace, so I actually expected him today ... but we can't forget that he is not simply a player anymore, he's also a coach this season, so I'd expect to see him in less games this year. Even Moyes has to realize that Giggs is not fast enough any more and that he shouldn't start in important games like that, especially now with Nani, Young and Kagawa all back, Valencia firing on all cylinders and Welbeck very deserving of chances as well. Simply too many good options ahead of him and looking at your proposed lineup, I doubt that Moyes will go without a "real" winger - United almost never does. Also Giggs/Evra on the left side against Navas/Zabaleta would be a nightmare of epic proportions.

we'll see, I wouldn't start him I just think he would have at least been on the bench today if he wasn't going to start sunday
Fergie used him only 5 months ago vs RM and vs City in April as a starter
I think Moyes will follow that model for a little while yet, he's pragmatic

I saw Fergie using Giggs in Central Midfield position alot last season. Which was irritating.
Against real, he played a more defensive winger position.
With Fellaini I don't see that option, but who knows -- most of us think of Giggs as past his expiration date.

From the beeb.
"Samuel Eto'o retains his place up front for Chelsea for the visit of Fulham, while Juan Mata and David Luiz are not even in the squad as boss Jose Mourinho makes four changes to the side beaten 2-1 at home by Basel in Europe."
What the hell gives with Mourinho and Mata? And why isn't Moyes juming on this chance to stir things regarding that whole scenario particularly with reference to throwing Mourinho's merde stirring comments back in his face way back when he was trying to land Rooney.
Quote:
Jose Mourinho has warned players that being "second choice" at their club could damage their prospects of playing at the World Cup next summer. The Chelsea manager was speaking two days after Manchester United rejected a bid from the Blues for Wayne Rooney.
The England forward, 27, was angered by a suggestion he could be back-up to Robin van Persie at Old Trafford.
"For a player to be selected for his country, normally he must be first choice at his club," Mourinho said.

Can only dream of a Fulham win today and the subsequent reaction.
Can you imagine the abuse Benitez would be getting following losses to Everton and Basel and then dumping Mata from the squad?

Shinji offers absolutely nothing defensively, so I fully expected Moyes to play someone more responsible defensively against Navas and Zabaleta. Nothing surprising here.
Shocking stuff from United.

But Ashley Young offers nothing
if this is how Moyes is going to play things than I hope he stays forever

Vidic must be getting sick of Ferdinand, looks like ol' Rio has completely forgotten how to mark his man and/or attack a cross.
And, characteristically, Rooney whining at Webb before the second half even starts.

That was hilarious by Valencia.
"Oh, I'm in the box now, time to fall."
