Everything would need to be renovated if we did host but they will most likely be renovated anyways as I'm pretty sure we'll continue using all of our facilities. Kind of the benefit of being good at and having a lot of participation in winter sports, when you host, you still get usage out of your facilities.

The biggest problem would be a stadium for the opening ceremonies, but seeing as the CFL is lame, that might be the only way we get a REAL modern outdoor stadium in this city and not one that looks at home in a 3rd world country.

That's what happened to the Sapporo facilities, they get old and become substandard. Nagano gave Japan new facilities. The same thing happened in France, Canada, Italy, and the USA.

Yep, there's no way Toronto gets the winter games, only summer. Heck, Barcelona with the Pyrenees near by and Los Angeles with the San Gabriel mountains could get the winter games.

Perhaps unexpected failures will happen a higher rate than normal? I don't think that's out of the question at all. There's always going to be some tiny corner that didn't get cleaned properly.

According to the one (now banned?) poster, there's zero chance that the entire Saddledome electrical system could/would be properly repaired for another 6 months, and that the Flames will be lining the pockets of the City inspector to look the other way if it was ready before that...so there's that.

The contractor fixing the Dome is the same one that built it. They will do it right.

Most of the trades down there are working 24/7. Drywall is going up in offices and the dressing rooms. Walls are being painted and the seats are being cleaned and re installed. I've been there 2 weeks so far...only 4 more to go

Weren't the flood affected seats supposed to be replaced with new seats?

I assume the fabric part of the seats would need to be replaced, but the plastic part should only need to be cleaned.

The question is does it need the entire electrical system repairing or is it just the section that was below the water level, if so that's a smaller job than the entire electrics (still a lot of work but not impossible)

I am an electrician (not the dude who was banned but him and I had several discussions on this topic) and I know of a few people working on the saddledome who are performing the repairs. Not everything has to be replaced (many things that were under water can be refurbished) but a lot of wiring still has to be gutted and re done or at least the conduit must be cleaned out. Considering how many electricians are on site there and their deadline, it's more than doable. From an electrical perspective I have full confidence that the dome will be ready to run on its previous schedule .

I know they're taking out sections of the stands and cleaning them. As for the seats, I don't know if they're new or have been cleaned, as that's not what I'm working on

The electrical room isn't on the event level. The building has power, it has had power the whole time. What needs to be repaired is all of the distribution to the rooms on the event level. Lights and other fixtures being replaced, conduit being replaced or cleaned out, etc.

i would like too see calgary get another olympics. but i dont think it will happen for a while yet. i think that Quebec gets one before Calgary. there are a lot of upgrades that will need to be done to the facilities
