Hall might be a prick, but he is the one thing on the sad sack oilers team that brings it. I can't say the same about Seguin.

He has a little bit of pest in him. Teams need that. You hate 'em when they play for an opponent but love 'em when they're on your team. Sounds a little like Messier although Mess was much tougher.

We also need to differentiate between "Party" meaning have a few beers, stroll home around 2 a.m. and feel a bit groggy the next morning versus "Paaaarty" which is also known as the "Theo Fleury."

Those in Winnipeg who saw him the night before he "slept in" and missed his alarm put him in the "Theo Fleury" category.

Now now now...Hall gets a couple extra months a year where he doesn't have to play hockey that Seguin doesn't. Really it's more like 3 and a half when you factor in injury.

My guess is that none of these guys are any different than any other young hot shot player from the last 75 years. Difference now is that with Twitter and everyone carrying a camera everywhere they go, it's nearly impossible to hide. How much did we hear of Seguins antics until the last week? Once the player is off the team and out of town..the media and the like will go after them much more feverishly than when they were on the team they cover.

Hall, what a great player, if his lips were made of iron, he would have killed many hockey players by now

I recall earlier in the thread (or the trade thread) that his hip might have been injured - but it seems to have taken on a life of its own, soon he's going to be in a wheelchair. Unless I totally missed something.
It came out that he had a hip injury correct. But Seguin was quoted as saying it was an injury he has had his whole life.

Teams do try to keep things behind closed door unless somebody comes out with a revealing photos. The question is whether the stories are true and it appears that Seguin does like to hit the bars and stay out late. This isn't much of a problem in the offseason but if it happened during the playoffs it raises red flags.

The fact of the matter is that players are a lot more disciplined these days in terms of their training, nutrition, and lifestyle. Very few players can become top players being Babe Ruth like in their lifestyles because others simply have the edge. Professional sports are very demanding of its participants. You accept the fact that stay in the game you have to stay very disciplined. Seguin's penchant for hitting the bars and staying out late raises red flags and it's a huge concern if you're the GM of a team that has invested heavily in the player. And when Seguin delivered the type of performance he did in the playoffs, you got to wonder if his teammates were irked as well.

Link indicating that hall didn't take a leadership role in Okc.

Maybe OF81 can clarify, but some of my oilers friends told me that hall was injured got a bit in okc and the team sucked. It wasn't till hall came by that okc started to play well. Further, their okc team had a good veteran group (for an ahl) level that hall was able to Jon in seamlessly.

I'd be surprised if there was an article link able that states something like "Hall not a leader".

Not to belittle the good contributions that many pros make. But PR opps are one thing. The way someone behaves off the clock is more reflective of their character. The flip side of millions of dollars for playing a game is the idolatry and responsibility being a public figure.

Cameras and media aren't allowed at the Stollery with the lone exception of when the Oilers do their annual group hospital visit. When the Oilers have done their hospital visits, Hall has gone to the Glenrose or Cross Cancer.

Also, it's a movie quote. Just a case of "why so serious?" IMO.

Seguin would have made a nice center piece of a rebuild. Regarding the partying, I recall a similar story being circulated about Mike Richards and Jeff Carter around the time when Holmgren traded them away -- look how that turned out. This was an execellent trade for Dallas, Eriksson was notoriously inconsistent for them. In my mind, Dallas is now a legitimate rival to the Hawks in the west.
