I'm not really a big hip hop fan, I dig most of what Kanye & Jay-Z put out (Watch the Throne is a freaking masterpiece), but I am a big industrial fan, so thus far I'm loving Yeezus.
Yeah it's missing some of the humour & soul of his older stuff, but the raw angry synths & drum machines are killer. But I'll admit the jagged nature of some tracks, particularly Bound 2 really kills the flow at times.
Production wise, Kanye rarely ever misses the mark, but as an MC, he just makes me want to cry he's so bad.
At times, I think he's actually better than some of his older stuff, but overall, still more of the same rambling incoherency with virtually no creativity in his rhymes.
If it was someone else rapping, the album would be great, but it's not, so it's not.

Hopefully this is good. I will always check for a new Jay-Z release without question. I'm not expecting Reasonable Doubt or Blueprint but his average stuff is still better than a lot of people's top stuff.
It's progression. Frankly, it would be very very boring if he continued making album after album sound like College Dropout. He's growing and he wants to try new things, so let him try new things. He's stated before that when he makes records that makes everyone else happy, he's the one that ends up feeling like #### about it. So he makes records like 808s & Yeezus because they let him express himself as an artist. Then after he makes an album like one of those, he feels good enough that he can make something that will appeal to everyone (like MBDTF). I definitely wouldn't be as big of a fan of him as I am now if he didn't switch up his style as much as he does.

I don't mind Black Skinhead, but the rest of the album feels really disorganized. Random screaming and odd break downs just don't make a lot of sense for pop/hip hop in my opinion.
Can anyone recommend a few good workout/pregame songs for me? I go through phases and lately really like 'Clique' (kanye et.all), 'Gotta have it' (Kanye and Jay Z) and 'I get money' (50). Not the greatest songs ever, but just stuff I really like for this! I would like to change it up though. Any ideas?
Like tracks 1-4, but the rest of the album just lacks flow.
Beats are good but as others mentioned choppy with odd break downs.
Yeah, I'm not sure how such an experimental album without any continuity and melody is getting such rave reviews. It's mindblowing actually. In the end, you don't buy an album to listen to an experiment, you buy it to listen to that experiment unfold in a hopefully positive way. This album tries some very creative stuff, but it's not something I can listen to on repeat.
Thanks for posting this!! Having lived in the midwest for years, I have seen countless Atmosphere (and Eyedea/Abilities, Ali, etc) shows... And somehow, I have never encountered this track. It's one of the better ones for sure.
