No ETA yet, but Transportation is working on their plan to restore this and the other bridges that were wiped out. They will be straight forward in design like the old bridges were, but to more modern code.
I think that a plan of replacing as many bridges as possible with a clean, straight ford design is more important than develop bridges like the fancy one downtown.
Hopefully they rehab the road underneath glen more, by burnco, that road was so wavy and rough, it was clearly due for resurfacing anyways.
Just out of curiosity, has there been any estimate on how long it will take to rebuild the entire pathway system? I am thinking 10 to 15 years.

Since they've put concrete jersey barriers to block off Heritage Drive under Glenmore, does this mean more intensive repairs will finally happen to Heritage, or is it just for all those trucks dumping gravel at the park site right now? I was surprised at how much damage was done to the parking area, but I can't imagine that amount of effort closing off the road would be just for the park.
From what I could see last night, it looks like they've ripped out all the asphalt and may be redoing/repaving it. That would be nice, since that section of road always takes a month of life out of my car's shocks.
I heard from a guy that works there that some of the recycling has no 'market' so it is stored and sometimes just dumped into the regular landfills. Not just because of the flood but ever sicne it started.
This can't be true? All recycling is actually recycled, right?
Recycling as a whole is a pretty big waste of money and resources (except for certain materials like metals). Penn & Teller did a great episode of Bull##### on this

Is the St. Patrick's Island bridge salvagable? Has the construction schedule been severly impacted? I was really looking forward to to that and the island park opening.

Schedule will be a bit off, but I understand the damage isn't catastrophic. Not as bad as it first appeared.

After reading a mention about backwater valves in the flood thread and doing a little more searching, one of the first links I found was to a City of Edmonton homeowner subsidy program for backwater valves. Is this something that the City of Calgary would consider in light of the amount of damage that could have seemingly been prevented in some neighbourhoods?
Speaking of St. Patricks.. is there a reason it was put in that terrible location? Why wasn't it connected to the Bridgeland/Memorial LRT?
Is there new lighting going to be installed on that pathway so that I don't get my bum mugged trying to walk home from downtown late at night?
The whole Bridgeland to St. Patrick's is a mess, but as I understand it, crossing over Memorial is outside CMLC's scope and that's why it wasn't considered. The bridge is actually in the right spot, but it should go over Memorial too.
So looking for you to de-bunk a piece of info i just overheard. Does Mayor Nenshi practice nepotism in his staff? Hiring relatives who may not be qualified?
Dont get me wrong, i support Nenshi and how he handles himself fully. Truthfully, he was my 2nd pick after Blinky, but id vote for him next time. I just want some clarification. Thanks.
Totally false. He has no relatives on his staff (nor has he ever). Everyone is eminately qualified - especially me.
Interestingly, perhaps for some - in the 2 1/2 years we've only had one staff turn over (of our 12). That was our wonderful former receptionist, who started as a temp right after the election, and then was hired full time. She moved onward and upward to a great position at the U of C about a year ago.

A year ago I overheard a guy at Tim Hortons telling his buddy that they were going to install licence plate readers on Highway 2 at points between Calgary and Edmonton so they could send you a speeding ticket if you went between the points too quickly.
Don't believe everything you hear! (Sounds like someone was trying to find reasons to dislike Nenshi)

They actually do this in Australia. It seems like a fantastic way to catch speeding.
